1 An ^aoracle concerning ^bDamascus.

Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city
and will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of ^cAroer are deserted;
they will be for flocks,
which will lie down, and ^dnone will make them afraid.
3 The fortress will disappear from ^eEphraim,
and the kingdom from ^fDamascus;
and the remnant of Syria will be
like ^gthe glory of the children of Israel,

declares the Lord of hosts.

Jeremiah 49:23-27

Judgment on Damascus

23 Concerning ^hDamascus:

ⁱ“Hamath and ^jArpad are confounded,
for they have heard bad news;
they melt in fear,
^kthey are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.
24 ^lDamascus has become feeble, ^mshe turned to flee,
and panic seized her;
anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her,
as ⁿof a woman in labor.
25 How is ^othe famous city not forsaken,
the city of my joy?
26 ^pTherefore her young men shall fall in her squares,
and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day,

declares the Lord of hosts.
27 And ^qI will kindle a fire in the wall of ^rDamascus,
and it shall devour the strongholds of ^sBen-hadad.”

Amos 1:3-5

3 Thus says the Lord:

^t“For three transgressions of ^uDamascus,
and for four, ^vI will not revoke the punishment, ^{▼▼Hebrew I will not turn it back; also verses 6, 9, 11, 13}
because they have threshed ^xGilead
with threshing sledges of iron.
4 ^ySo I will send a fire upon the house of ^zHazael,
and it shall devour the strongholds of ^aaBen-hadad.
5 I will ^abbreak the gate-bar of ^acDamascus,
and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of ^adAven, ^{▼▼Or On}
and him who holds the scepter from ^afBeth-eden;
and the people of ^agSyria shall go into exile to ^ahKir,”

says the Lord.

Amos 3:12

12 Thus says the Lord: ^ai“As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, ^ajso shall the people of Israel ^akwho dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part ^{▼▼The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain} of a bed.
