Exodus 17:8-16

Israel Defeats Amalek

8 ^cThen Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9 So Moses said to ^dJoshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with ^ethe staff of God in my hand.” 10 So ^fJoshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and ^gHur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Whenever Moses ^hheld up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and ⁱHur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And ^jJoshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of ^kJoshua, that ^lI will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses ^mbuilt an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, 16 saying, “A hand upon the throne ^{▼▼A slight change would yield upon the banner} of the Lord! ^oThe Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Numbers 24:20

20 Then he looked on Amalek and ^ptook up his discourse and said,

“Amalek was the first among the nations,
^qbut its end is utter destruction.”

Deuteronomy 25:17-19

17 ^r“Remember what Amalek did to you ^son the way as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and ^tcut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore ^uwhen the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall ^vblot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.

1 Samuel 15:3
