Genesis 28:3-20

3 ^dGod Almighty ^{▼▼Hebrew El Shaddai} bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. 4 May he give ^fthe blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of ^gthe land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” 5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

Esau Marries an Ishmaelite

6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. 8 So when Esau saw ^hthat the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, 9 Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, ⁱMahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of ^jNebaioth.

Jacob’s Dream

10 Jacob left ^kBeersheba and went toward ^lHaran. 11 And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he ^mdreamed, and behold, there was a ladder ^{▼▼Or a flight of steps} set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, ^othe angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, ^pthe Lord stood above it ^{▼▼Or beside him} and said, ^r“I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. ^sThe land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like ^tthe dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and ^uyour offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, ^vI am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and ^wwill bring you back to this land. For I will ^xnot leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is ^yin this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up ^zfor a pillar ^aaand poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place ^abBethel, ^{▼▼ Bethel means the house of God} but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob ^admade a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,

Exodus 3:8

8 and ^aeI have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and ^afto bring them up out of that land to a ^aggood and broad land, a land ^ahflowing with milk and honey, to the place of ^aithe Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Exodus 34:11

11 “Observe what I command you this day. Behold, ^ajI will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Numbers 34:2-15

2 “Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter ^akthe land of Canaan ^al(this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), 3 ^amyour south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of ^anthe Salt Sea on the east. 4 And your border shall turn south of ^aothe ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to ^apHazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. 5 And the border shall turn ^aqfrom Azmon to ^arthe Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea.

6 “For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its ^{▼▼Syriac; Hebrew lacks its} coast. This shall be your western border.

7 “This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to ^atMount Hor. 8 From Mount Hor you shall draw a line ^auto Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at ^avZedad. 9 Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at ^awHazar-enan. This shall be your northern border.

10 “You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11 And the border shall go down from Shepham to ^axRiblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of ^aythe Sea of Chinnereth on the east. 12 And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at ^azthe Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.”

13 Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, ^ba“This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. 14 ^bbFor the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. 15 The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.”
