Genesis 18:22-33

Abraham Intercedes for Sodom

22 aSo the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham bstill stood before the Lord. 23Then Abraham drew near and said, c“Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, dso that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! eShall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26And the Lord said, fIf I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27Abraham answered and said, gBehold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32Then he said, hOh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

Deuteronomy 8:2

Nehemiah 9:33

33 mYet you have been righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully nand we have acted wickedly.

Proverbs 26:2

2Like oa sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,

Jeremiah 7:17-28

17Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, qand the women knead dough, to rmake cakes for sthe queen of heaven. And tthey pour out drink offerings to other gods, uto provoke me to anger. 19 vIs it I whom they provoke? declares the Lord. Is it not themselves, wto their own shame? 20Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, xmy anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; yit will burn and not be quenched.”

21Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: zAdd your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. 22For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them aaconcerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23But this command I gave them: abObey my voice, and acI will be your God, and you shall be my people. adAnd walk in all the way that I command you, aethat it may be well with you.’ 24 afBut they did not obey or incline their ear, agbut walked in their own counsels and ahthe stubbornness of their evil hearts, and aiwent backward and not forward. 25From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, ajI have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day. 26 akYet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, albut stiffened their neck. amThey did worse than their fathers.

27 an“So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. aoYou shall call to them, but they will not answer you. 28And you shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, and did not accept discipline; aptruth has perished; it is cut off from their lips.

Ezekiel 8:6-18

6And he said to me, “Son of man, aqdo you see what they are doing, arthe great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, asto drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.”

7And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. 8Then he said to me, “Son of man, atdig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. 9And he said to me, “Go in, and see authe vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10So I went in and saw. And there, avengraved on the wall all around, was awevery form of axcreeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11And before them stood ayseventy men of azthe elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of baShaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and bbthe smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing bcin the dark, each bdin his room of pictures? For they say, be‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13He said also to me, bf“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14Then he brought me to bgthe entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O bhson of man? biYou will see still greater abominations than these.”

16And he brought me into bjthe inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, bkbetween the blporch and bmthe altar, were about twenty-five men, bnwith their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping bothe sun toward the east. 17Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O bpson of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit bqthe abominations that they commit here, that brthey should fill the land with violence and bsprovoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their

nose.
18Therefore buI will act in wrath. bvMy eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. bwAnd though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

Ezekiel 9:8-9

8And while they were striking, and I was left alone, bxI fell upon my face, and cried, byAh, Lord God! bzWill you destroy all the remnant of Israel cain the outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?”

9Then he said to me, cb“The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. ccThe land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For cdthey say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see.’
