Judgment on Ammon

1 oConcerning the Ammonites.

Thus says the Lord:

“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then has pMilcom qdispossessed Gad,
and his people settled in its cities?
2Therefore, behold, the days are coming,
declares the Lord,
when I will cause rthe battle cry to be heard
against sRabbah of the Ammonites;
it shall become a desolate tmound,
and its villages shall be burned with fire;
then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him,
says the Lord.
3 Wail, O uHeshbon, for Ai is laid waste!
Cry out, O daughters of vRabbah!
wPut on sackcloth,
lament, and run to and fro among the hedges!
For xMilcom shall go into exile,
ywith his priests and his officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,
Hebrew  boast of your valleys, your valley flows

aaO faithless daughter,
abwho trusted in her treasures, saying,
Who will come against me?’
5Behold, acI will bring terror upon you,
declares the Lord God of hosts,
from all who are around you,
and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him,
with none to gather the fugitives.
6“But adafterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”

Ezekiel 21:28-32

28“And you, aeson of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord God afconcerning the Ammonites and concerning their reproach; say, agA sword, a sword ahis drawn for the slaughter. aiIt is polished to consume and to flash like lightning 29while ajthey see for you false visions, while they divine lies for you—to place you on the necks of the profane wicked, akwhose day has come, the time of their final punishment. 30 alReturn it to its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, amI will judge you. 31And anI will pour out my indignation upon you; aoI will blow upon you with the fire of my wrath, and I will deliver you into the hands of apbrutish men, skillful to destroy. 32You shall be fuel for the fire. Your blood shall be in the midst of the land. aqYou shall be no more remembered, arfor I the Lord have spoken.”

Amos 1:13-15

13Thus says the Lord:

as“For three transgressions of the atAmmonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because authey have ripped open pregnant women in avGilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
14So I will kindle a fire in the wall of awRabbah,
axand it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
aywith a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
15and aztheir king shall go into exile,
he and his princes
Or officials
together,”
