Genesis 2:23-24

23Then the man said,

This at last is abone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was btaken out of Man.”
The Hebrew words for  woman (ishshah) and  man (ish) sound alike

24 dTherefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Proverbs 5:15-19

15 Drink ewater from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16Should your fsprings be scattered abroad,
streams of water gin the streets?
17 hLet them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
18Let your ifountain be blessed,
and jrejoice in kthe wife of your youth,
19a lovely ldeer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts mfill you at all times with delight;
be intoxicated

Malachi 2:14-16

14 oBut you say, “Why does he not?” Because the Lord pwas witness between you and the wife of your youth, qto whom ryou have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15 sDid he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?

Matthew 19:3-9

3And Pharisees came up to him and adtested him by asking, aeIs it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” 4He answered, af“Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5and said, agTherefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and ahthe two shall become one flesh’? 6So they are no longer two but one flesh. aiWhat therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 7They said to him, ajWhy then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?” 8He said to them, Because of your akhardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 alAnd I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”
Some manuscripts add and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery; other manuscripts  except for sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery


1 Corinthians 7:3

3 anThe husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.

Colossians 3:19

19Husbands, love your wives, and aodo not be harsh with them.
