Genesis 2:9

9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. ^aThe tree of life was in the midst of the garden, ^band the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 3:1-3

The Fall

1 Now ^cthe serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You ^{▼▼In Hebrew you is plural in verses 1–5} shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ^e‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

Genesis 3:11

11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

Genesis 3:17

17 And to Adam he said,

“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
^fof which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
^gcursed is the ground because of you;
^hin pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

Genesis 3:19

19 By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
ⁱfor you are dust,
and ^jto dust you shall return.”
