The Sacrifice of Isaac
1After these things aGod tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”Genesis 22:12
12He said, b“Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for cnow I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”Exodus 15:25-26

made for them a statute and a rule, and there he htested them, 26saying, i“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the jdiseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, kyour healer.” Deuteronomy 8:2
2And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you lthese forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, mtesting you nto know what was in your heart, owhether you would keep his commandments or not.Deuteronomy 13:3
3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God pis testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
