14 He had possessions of flocks and herds and many servants, so that the Philistines ^aenvied him.

1 When Rachel saw that ^bshe bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!”

11 And ^chis brothers were jealous of him, ^dbut his father kept the saying in mind.

2 Surely vexation kills the fool,
and jealousy slays the simple.

3 ^eFor I was ^fenvious of the arrogant
when I saw the ^gprosperity of the wicked.

16 When men in the camp ^hwere jealous of Moses
and Aaron, ⁱthe holy one of the Lord,

4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming,
