16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is ^ain this place, and I did not know it.”

Genesis 28:19

19 He called the name of that place ^bBethel, ^{▼▼ Bethel means the house of God} but the name of the city was Luz at the first.

Genesis 35:6-7

6 And Jacob came to ^dLuz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him, 7 and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, ^{▼▼ El-bethel means God of Bethel} because ^fthere God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.
