Genesis 29:32-35

32And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben,
 Reuben means See, a son
for she said, “Because the Lord bhas looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”
33She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.
 Simeon sounds like the Hebrew for heard
34Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be dattached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.
 Levi sounds like the Hebrew for  attached
35And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name fJudah.
 Judah sounds like the Hebrew for  praise
Then she ceased bearing.

Genesis 30:1-24

1When Rachel saw that hshe bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!” 2Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, iwho has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” 3Then she said, “Here is my servant jBilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth kon my behalf,

4So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her. 5And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. 6Then Rachel said, “God has njudged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.

7Rachel’s servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. 8Then Rachel said, “With mighty wrestlings

I have wrestled with my sister and have prevailed.” So she called his name qNaphtali.

9When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her servant Zilpah and sgave her to Jacob as a wife. 10Then Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son. 11And Leah said, t“Good fortune has come!” so she called his name uGad.
 Gad sounds like the Hebrew for  good fortune
12Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. 13And Leah said, “Happy am I! For women whave called me happy.” So she called his name Asher.

14In the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found ymandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” 15But she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?” Rachel said, “Then he may lie with you tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.” 16When Jacob came from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he lay with her that night. 17And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18Leah said, “God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar.

19And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. 20Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name aaZebulun.
 Zebulun sounds like the Hebrew for  honor
21Afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

22Then God acremembered Rachel, and God listened to her and adopened her womb. 23She conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away aemy reproach.” 24And she called his name Joseph,
 Joseph means May he add, and sounds like the Hebrew for taken away
saying, ag“May the Lord add to me another son!”

Genesis 35:16-20

The Deaths of Rachel and Isaac

16Then they journeyed from Bethel. When they were still some distance
Or about two hours’ distance
from Ephrath, Rachel went into labor, and she had hard labor.
17And when her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, “Do not fear, for aiyou have another son.” 18And as her soul was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-oni;
 Ben-oni could mean son of my sorrow, or son of my strength
akbut his father called him Benjamin.
 Benjamin means son of the right hand
19So amRachel died, and she was buried on the way to anEphrath (that is, Bethlehem), 20and Jacob set up a pillar over her tomb. It is aothe pillar of Rachel’s tomb, which is there to this day.

These are the Dathan and Abiram, bqchosen from the congregation, who contended against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they contended against the Lord 10and brthe earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured 250 men, and bsthey became a warning. 11But btthe sons of Korah did not die.

52The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 53 cu“Among these the land shall be divided for inheritance according to the number of names. 54 cvTo a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance; every tribe shall be given its inheritance in proportion to its list. 55But the land shall be cwdivided by lot. According to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. 56Their inheritance shall be divided according to lot between the larger and the smaller.”

For dcthey were not listed among the people of Israel, because ddthere was no inheritance given to them among the people of Israel.

63These were those listed by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who listed the people of Israel dein the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. 64 dfBut among these there was not one of those listed by Moses and Aaron the priest, who had listed the people of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. 65For the Lord had said of them, dg“They shall die in the wilderness.” Not one of them was left, dhexcept Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
