The Righteous Reign of the Branch

1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of iJesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

Isaiah 53:2-10

2For he grew up before him like a young plant,
jand like a root out of dry ground;
khe had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 lHe was despised and rejected
Or forsaken
by men,
a man of sorrows,
Or pains; also verse 4
and acquainted with
Or  and knowing
grief;
Or sickness; also verse 4

and as one from whom men hide their faces
Or  as one who hides his face from us

he was despised, and rwe esteemed him not.
4 sSurely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
tsmitten by God, and afflicted.
5 uBut he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
vand with his wounds we are healed.
6 wAll we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
xand the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yyet he opened not his mouth;
zlike a aalamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
8By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, abwho considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
9And they made his grave with the wicked
acand with a rich man in his death,
although adhe had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet aeit was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
Or  he has made him sick

agwhen his soul makes
Or  when you make his soul
an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
aithe will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by aybecoming obedient to the point of death, azeven death on a cross. 9 baTherefore bbGod has bchighly exalted him and bestowed on him bdthe name that is above every name,
