Genesis 3:8-19

8And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool
Hebrew wind
of the day, and the man and his wife bhid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
In Hebrew  you is singular in verses 9 and 11
10And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, dbecause I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12The man said, e“The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, f“The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14The Lord God said to the serpent,

Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and gdust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring
Hebrew seed; so throughout Genesis
and iher offspring;
jhe shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
16To the woman he said,

“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
kin pain you shall bring forth children.
lYour desire shall be contrary to
Or shall be toward (see 4:7)
your husband,
but he shall nrule over you.”
17And to Adam he said,

Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
oof which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
pcursed is the ground because of you;
qin pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
rfor you are dust,
and sto dust you shall return.”

2 Samuel 12:1-12

Nathan Rebukes David

1And the Lord sent xNathan to David. He came to him and said to him, y“There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. 2The rich man had very many flocks and herds, 3but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms,
Hebrew bosom; also verse 8
and it was like a daughter to him.
4Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” 5Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, aa“As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die, 6and he shall restore the lamb abfourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.”

7Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ac‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. 8And I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your arms and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more. 9 adWhy have you despised the word of the Lord, aeto do what is evil in his sight? afYou have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and aghave taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12For you did it secretly, ahbut I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.’”

2 Samuel 21:12-14

12David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabesh-gilead, aiwho had stolen them from the public square of ajBeth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, on the day the Philistines killed Saul on Gilboa. 13And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan; and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged. 14And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in akZela, in the tomb of Kish his father. And they did all that the king commanded. And after that alGod responded to the plea for the land.
