Genesis 39:8-23

8But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and ahe has put everything that he has in my charge. 9He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and bsin against God?” 10And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he cwould not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.

11But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, 12 dshe caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. 13And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house, 14she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. 15And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.” 16Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home, 17and she told him the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me. 18But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.”

19As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. 20And Joseph’s master took him and eput him into the fprison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. 21But gthe Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love hand gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22And the keeper of the prison iput Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. 23The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because jthe Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed.

The Parable of the Talents

14 kFor lit will be like a man mgoing on a journey, who called his servants
Greek bondservants; also verse 19
and entrusted to them his property.
15To one he gave five otalents,
A  talent was a monetary unit worth about twenty years’ wages for a laborer
to another two, to another one, qto each according to his ability. Then he rwent away.
16He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18But he who had received the one talent went and sdug in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19Now tafter a long time the master of those servants came and usettled accounts with them. 20And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and vfaithful servant.
Greek bondservant; also verses 23, 26, 30
xYou have been faithful over a little; yI will set you over much. Enter into zthe joy of your master.’
22And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be aaa hard man, reaping abwhere you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, acyou have what is yours.’ 26But his master answered him, ‘You adwicked and aeslothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 afFor to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

Luke 16:2

2And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your agmanagement, for you can no longer be manager.’

Luke 16:10-12

10 ah“One who is aifaithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. 11If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? 12And if you have not been faithful in ajthat which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

John 15:22

22If I had not come and spoken to them, akthey would not have been guilty of sin,
Greek  they would not have sin; also verse 24
but now they have no excuse for their sin.

1 Corinthians 9:17-18

17For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with ama stewardship. 18What then is my reward? That in my preaching anI may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.
