Genesis 4:1-2
Cain and Abel
1Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten ▼ a man with the help of the Lord.” 2And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground.Genesis 4:25
25And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed ▼▼ Seth sounds like the Hebrew for he appointed
for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.” Genesis 16:11
11And the angel of the Lord said to her,“Behold, you are pregnant
and shall bear a son.
You shall call his name Ishmael, ▼
▼ Ishmael means God hears
dbecause the Lord has listened to your affliction.
Genesis 29:32
32And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, ▼▼ Reuben means See, a son
for she said, “Because the Lord fhas looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.” Genesis 30:6
6Then Rachel said, “God has gjudged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan. ▼Genesis 30:8
8Then Rachel said, “With mighty wrestlings ▼▼Hebrew With wrestlings of God
I have wrestled with my sister and have prevailed.” So she called his name jNaphtali. ▼▼ Naphtali sounds like the Hebrew for wrestling
1 Samuel 1:20
20And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the Lord.” ▼▼ Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for heard of God
1 Samuel 4:21
21And she named the child mIchabod, saying, n“The glory has departed ▼▼Or gone into exile; also verse 22
from Israel!” because pthe ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
