2And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. 3In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of athe fruit of the ground, 4and Abel also brought of bthe firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord chad regard for Abel and his offering, 5but dfor Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. 6The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 eIf you do well, will you not be accepted?
Hebrew  will there not be a lifting up [of your face]?
And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. gIts desire is contrary to

you, but you must rule over it.”

8Cain spoke to Abel his brother.

And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and jkilled him.

Genesis 37:4

4But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.

8His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

15Thus says the Lord God: Because rthe Philistines sacted revengefully and took vengeance twith malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity,

5Because uyou cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword vat the time of their calamity, wat the time of their final punishment,

Amos 1:11-12

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10 afBecause of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
agand you shall be cut off forever.
11 ahOn the day that you stood aloof,
aion the day that strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
ajand cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 akBut do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
aldo not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;

in the day of distress.
13 aoDo not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
apdo not gloat over his disaster

aqdo not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 arDo not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.
