Genesis 4:4-8

4and Abel also brought of athe firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord bhad regard for Abel and his offering, 5but cfor Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. 6The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 dIf you do well, will you not be accepted?
Hebrew  will there not be a lifting up [of your face]?
And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. fIts desire is contrary to
Or is toward
you, but you must rule over it.”

8Cain spoke to Abel his brother.

And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and ikilled him.

Genesis 37:2-11

2These are the generations of Jacob.

Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought ja bad report of them to their father.
3Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was kthe son of his old age. And he made him la robe of many colors.

4But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.

5Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, nmy sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and obowed down to my sheaf.” 8His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

9Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and pyour mother and your brothers indeed come qto bow ourselves to the ground before you?” 11And rhis brothers were jealous of him, sbut his father kept the saying in mind.

1 Samuel 18:8-9

8And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but tthe kingdom?” 9And Saul eyed David from that day on.

1 Samuel 18:14-16

14And David uhad success in all his undertakings, vfor the Lord was with him. 15And when Saul saw that whe had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him. 16 xBut all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.

1 Samuel 18:29-30

29Saul was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David’s enemy continually.

30 yThen the commanders of the Philistines came out to battle, and as often as they came out zDavid had more success than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.

Proverbs 27:4
