Genesis 4:5-6
5but afor Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. 6The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?Genesis 37:4
4But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.Genesis 37:8
8His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.1 Samuel 17:27-28
27And the people answered him in the same way, b“So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”28Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
1 Samuel 18:8-9
8And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but cthe kingdom?” 9And Saul eyed David from that day on.1 Samuel 20:30-33
30Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? 31For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Therefore send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” 32Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, d“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” 33 eBut Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew fthat his father was determined to put David to death.1 Samuel 22:12-23
12And Saul said, “Hear now, son of Ahitub.” And he answered, “Here I am, my lord.” 13And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and ghave inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, hto lie in wait, as at this day?” 14Then Ahimelech answered the king, “And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and captain over ▼▼Septuagint, Targum; Hebrew and has turned aside to
your bodyguard, and honored in your house? 15Is today the first time jthat I have inquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, kmuch or little.” 16And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.” 17And the king said to lthe guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord. 18Then the king said to Doeg, “You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, mand he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod. 19And Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; nboth man and woman, child and infant, ox, donkey and sheep, he put to the sword. 20But one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named oAbiathar, escaped and fled after David. 21And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the Lord. 22And David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, pwhen Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father’s house. 23 qStay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.”
