Genesis 4:8-11

8Cain spoke to Abel his brother.
Hebrew; Samaritan, Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate add Let us go out to the field
And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and bkilled him.
9Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, c“I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?” 10And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood dis crying to me from the ground. 11And now eyou are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

Genesis 9:5-6

5And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: ffrom every beast I will require it and gfrom man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.

6 h“Whoever sheds the blood of man,
by man shall his blood be shed,
ifor God made man in his own image.

Genesis 42:21-22

21Then they said to one another, j“In truth we are guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us and we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.” 22And Reuben answered them, k“Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now lthere comes a reckoning for his blood.”

Numbers 35:31-34

31Moreover, you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall be put to death. 32And you shall accept no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the high priest. 33You shall not mpollute the land in which you live, for blood npollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except oby the blood of the one who shed it. 34 pYou shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell, qfor I the Lord dwell in the midst of the people of Israel.”

Proverbs 28:17

17If one is burdened with rthe blood of another,
he will be a fugitive until death;
Hebrew  until the pit

let no one help him.

Isaiah 26:21

21 tFor behold, the Lord is coming out from his place
to punish the inhabitants of uthe earth for their iniquity,
and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it,
and will no more cover its slain.
