7 Then Joseph brought in Jacob his father and stood him before Pharaoh, ^aand Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 8 And Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many are the days of the years of your life?” 9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my ^bsojourning are 130 years. ^cFew and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and ^dthey have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their ^esojourning.” 10 And Jacob ^fblessed Pharaoh and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.

1 Samuel 12:2-5

2 And now, behold, the king ^gwalks before you, ^hand I am old and gray; and behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day. 3 Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before ⁱhis anointed. ^jWhose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me ^{▼▼Septuagint; Hebrew lacks Testify against me} and I will restore it to you.” 4 They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man’s hand.” 5 And he said to them, “The Lord is witness against you, and ^lhis anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything ^min my hand.” And they said, “He is witness.”

David Prays in the Assembly

10 Therefore David blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: ⁿ“Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 ^oYours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 12 ^pBoth riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. ^qIn your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 13 And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.

14 “But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. 15 ^rFor we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you. 18 O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you. 19 ^wGrant to Solomon my son a whole heart that he may keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, performing all, and that he may ^xbuild the palace ^yfor which I have made provision.”

20 Then David said to all the assembly, ^z“Bless the Lord your God.” And all the assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers, ^aaand bowed their heads and paid homage to the Lord and to the king. 21 And they offered sacrifices to the Lord, and on the next day offered burnt offerings to the Lord, 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, and 1,000 lambs, with their ^abdrink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 And they ate and drank before the Lord on that day with great gladness.

Solomon Anointed King

And they made Solomon the son of David king ^acthe second time, and they ^adanointed him as prince for the Lord, and ^aeZadok as priest.

23 ^afThen Solomon sat on the ^agthrone of the Lord as king in place of David his father. And he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the leaders and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon. 25 And the Lord made Solomon very ^ahgreat in the sight of all Israel and ^aibestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

Ecclesiastes 4:13

13 Better was ^aja poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how ^akto take advice.
