Exodus 32:1-5

The Golden Calf

1When the people saw that Moses hdelayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, iUp, make us gods who shall jgo before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2So Aaron said to them, “Take off the krings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” 3So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 lAnd he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden

5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron omade a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.”

Numbers 14:1-10

The People Rebel

1Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people pwept that night. 2And all the people of Israel qgrumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or rwould that we had died in this wilderness! 3Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? sOur wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4And they said to one another, t“Let us choose a leader and ugo back to Egypt.”

5Then vMoses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the people of Israel. 6 wAnd Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes 7and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, x“The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. 8If ythe Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, za land that flows with milk and honey. 9Only aado not rebel against the Lord. And abdo not fear the people of the land, for acthey are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” 10 adThen all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But aethe glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel.

Joshua 24:15

15 afAnd if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, agchoose this day whom you will serve, whether ahthe gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or aithe gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. ajBut as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

1 Samuel 15:9

9 akBut Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves
The meaning of the Hebrew term is uncertain
and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction.
