Hebrews 1

The Supremacy of God’s Son

1Long ago, at many times and ain many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but bin these last days che has spoken to us by dhis Son, whom he appointed ethe heir of all things, fthrough whom also he created gthe world. 3He is the radiance of the glory of God and hthe exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. iAfter making purification for sins, jhe sat down kat the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become as much superior to angels as the name lhe has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

5For to which of the angels did God ever say,

mYou are my Son,
today I have begotten you”?
Or again,

nI will be to him a father,
and he shall be to me a son”?
6And again, when he brings othe firstborn into the world, he says,

pLet all God’s angels worship him.”
7Of the angels he says,

q“He makes his angels winds,
and his ministers a flame of fire.”
8But of the Son he says,

rYour throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, shas anointed you
with tthe oil of gladness beyond your companions.”
10And,

uYou, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
and the heavens are the work of your hands;
11they will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment,
12like a robe you will roll them up,
like a garment they will be changed.
Some manuscripts omit  like a garment

But you are wthe same,
and your years will have no end.”
13And to which of the angels has he ever said,

xSit at my right hand
yuntil I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?
14Are they not all ministering spirits zsent out to serve for the sake of those who are to aainherit salvation?

Hebrews 8

Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant

1Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, abone who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2a minister in the holy places, in acthe true tent
Or tabernacle; also verse 5
that the Lord aeset up, not man.
3For afevery high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus agit is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. 5They serve aha copy and aishadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, ajSee that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” 6But as it is, Christ
Greek he
has obtained a ministry that is alas much more excellent than the old as amthe covenant anhe mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
7 aoFor if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

8For he finds fault with them when he says:
Some manuscripts  For finding fault with it he says to them

aqBehold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
9not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 arFor this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and aswrite them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall atall know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
auand I will remember their sins no more.”
13In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And avwhat is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
