Hebrews 12:3-11

Do Not Grow Weary

3 aConsider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or bfainthearted. 4In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?

cMy son, ddo not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
6For ethe Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
7It is for discipline that you have to endure. fGod is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8If you are left without discipline, gin which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to hthe Father of spirits iand live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, jthat we may share his holiness. 11 kFor the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields lthe peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

James 1:2-4

Testing of Your Faith

2 mCount it all joy, my brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church; also verses 16, 19
when you meet trials oof various kinds,
3for you know that pthe testing of your faith qproduces steadfastness. 4And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be rperfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

1 Peter 1:5-7

5who by God’s power are being guarded sthrough faith for a salvation tready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by uvarious trials, 7so that vthe tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes wthough it is tested by xfire—may be found to result in ypraise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 4:12-14

Suffering as a Christian

12Beloved, do not be surprised at zthe fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice aainsofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad abwhen his glory is revealed. 14 acIf you are insulted adfor the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory

14I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of afthe great tribulation. agThey have washed their robes and ahmade them white aiin the blood of the Lamb.

15 Therefore they are before the throne of God,
and ajserve him day and night in his temple;

and apGod will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
