Hosea 1

1The word of the Lord that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, ain the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of bJeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

Hosea’s Wife and Children

2When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, cGo, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have dchildren of whoredom, for ethe land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.” 3So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

4And the Lord said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while fI will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and gI will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. 5And on that day hI will break the bow of Israel iin the Valley of Jezreel.”

6She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to him, jCall her name No Mercy,
Hebrew Lo-ruhama, which means she has not received mercy
for lI will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all.
7But mI will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God. I nwill not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen.”

8When she had weaned No Mercy, she conceived and bore a son. 9And the Lord said, oCall his name Not My People,
Hebrew Lo-ammi, which means  not my people
for qyou are not my people, and I am not your God.”
Hebrew  I am not yours

Hosea 5

Punishment Coming for Israel and Judah

1 adHear this, O priests!
Pay attention, O house of Israel!
Give ear, O house of the king!
For the judgment is for you;
for aeyou have been a snare at Mizpah
and a net spread upon afTabor.
2And agthe revolters ahhave gone deep into slaughter,
but aiI will discipline all of them.
3 ajI know Ephraim,
and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
Israel is defiled.
4 akTheir deeds do not permit them
to return to their God.
For althe spirit of whoredom is within them,
and they know not the Lord.
5 amThe pride of Israel testifies to his face;
Or in his presence

Israel and aoEphraim shall stumble in his guilt;
apJudah also shall stumble with them.
6 aqWith their flocks and herds they shall go
to seek the Lord,
arbut they will not find him;
ashe has withdrawn from them.
7 atThey have dealt faithlessly with the Lord;
for they have borne alien children.
Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.
8 auBlow the horn in avGibeah,
the trumpet in awRamah.
Sound the alarm at axBeth-aven;
we follow you,
Or after you
O Benjamin!
9Ephraim shall become a desolation
in the day of punishment;
among the tribes of Israel
I make known what is sure.
10The princes of Judah have become
like azthose who move the landmark;
upon them I will pour out
my wrath like water.
11Ephraim is baoppressed, crushed in judgment,
because he was determined to go after filth.
Or  to follow human precepts

12But I am bclike a moth to Ephraim,
and bdlike dry rot to the house of Judah.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness,
and Judah behis wound,
then Ephraim went bfto Assyria,
and sent to the great king.
Or  to King Jareb

bhBut he is not able to cure you
or heal biyour wound.
14For I will be bjlike a lion to bkEphraim,
and like a young lion to the house of blJudah.
bmI, even I, will tear and go away;
I will carry off, and no one shall rescue.
15 bnI will return again to my place,
until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face,
and boin their distress earnestly seek me.
