The Unfaithful City

21 How the faithful city
ahas become a whore,
Or  become unchaste

cshe who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.

Isaiah 23:15-16

15In that day Tyre will be forgotten for dseventy years, like the days
Or lifetime
of one king. At the end of fseventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:

16 Take a harp;
go about the city,
O forgotten prostitute!
Make sweet melody;
sing many songs,
that you may be remembered.”

Jeremiah 3:1

a man divorces his wife
and she goes from him
and becomes another man’s wife,
will he return to her?
iWould not that land be greatly polluted?
jYou have played the whore with many lovers;
and would you return to me?

Faithless Israel Called to Repentance

6The Lord said to me in the days of kKing Josiah: “Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, lhow she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there mplayed the whore? 7And I thought, ‘After she has done all this she will return to me,’ but she did not return, and her treacherous nsister Judah saw it. 8She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, oI had sent her away with pa decree of divorce. qYet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went rand played the whore.

Hosea 2:5

5For stheir mother has played the whore;
she who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For tshe said, ‘I will go after my lovers,
who ugive me my bread and my water,
my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’

Nahum 3:4

4And all for the countless whorings of the vprostitute,
wgraceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.

John 4:10

10Jesus answered her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you xliving water.”

John 4:18

18for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”
