Isaiah 10:5-6

Judgment on Arrogant Assyria

5 Woe to Assyria, athe rod of my anger;
the staff in their hands is my fury!
6Against a bgodless nation I send him,
and against the people of my wrath I command him,
to take cspoil and seize plunder,
and to dtread them down like the mire of the streets.

Isaiah 45:1-2

Cyrus, God’s Instrument

1 Thus says the Lord to ehis anointed, to Cyrus,
fwhose right hand I have grasped,
to subdue nations before him
and gto loose the belts of kings,
to open doors before him
that gates may not be closed:
2I will go before you
and hlevel the exalted places,

jI will break in pieces the doors of bronze
and cut through the bars of iron,

Jeremiah 50:14-15

14 kSet yourselves in array against Babylon all around,
lall you who bend the bow;
shoot at her, spare no arrows,
mfor she has sinned against the Lord.
15 nRaise a shout against her all around;
she has surrendered;
her bulwarks have fallen;
oher walls are thrown down.
For pthis is the vengeance of the Lord:
take vengeance on her;
qdo to her as she has done.

Jeremiah 51:6-25

6 rFlee from the midst of Babylon;
let every one save his life!
sBe not cut off in her punishment,
tfor this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance,
the repayment he is rendering her.
7Babylon was ua golden cup in the Lord’s hand,
vmaking all the earth drunken;
wthe nations drank of her wine;
therefore the nations went mad.
8 xSuddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken;
ywail for her!
zTake balm for her pain;
perhaps she may be healed.
9We would have healed Babylon,
but she was not healed.
aaForsake her, and ablet us go
each to his own country,
for acher judgment has reached up to heaven
and has been lifted up even to the skies.
10 adThe Lord has brought about our vindication;
aecome, let us declare in Zion
the work of the Lord our God.
11 afSharpen the arrows!
Take up the shields!
agThe Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of ahthe Medes, because aihis purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, ajfor that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for akhis temple.

12 al“Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon;
ammake the watch strong;
set up watchmen;
prepare the ambushes;
anfor the Lord has both planned and done
what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 aoO you who dwell by many waters,
rich in treasures,
your end has come;
the thread of your life is cut.
14 apThe Lord of hosts has sworn by himself:
Surely I will fill you with men, aqas many as locusts,
arand they shall raise the shout of victory over you.
15 as“It is he who made the earth by his power,
who established the world by his wisdom,
and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
16When he utters his voice there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain,
and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
17Every man is stupid and without knowledge;
every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,
for his images are false,
and there is no breath in them.
18They are worthless, a work of delusion;
at the time of their punishment they shall perish.
19Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob,
for he is the one who formed all things,
and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance;
the Lord of hosts is his name.
20 “You are my hammer and weapon of war:
with you I atbreak nations in pieces;
with you I destroy kingdoms;
21with you I break in pieces the horse and his rider;
with you I break in pieces the chariot and the charioteer;
22with you I break in pieces man and woman;
with you I break in pieces authe old man and the youth;
with you I break in pieces avthe young man and the young woman;
23with you I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock;
with you I break in pieces the farmer and his team;
with you I break in pieces awgovernors and commanders.
24 ax“I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea before your very eyes for all the evil that they have done in Zion, declares the Lord.

25 Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,

declares the Lord,
which destroys the whole earth;
I will stretch out my hand against you,
and roll you down from the crags,
ayand make you a burnt mountain.

Joel 2:1-11

The Day of the Lord

1 azBlow a trumpet in baZion;
sound an alarm on bbmy holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
for bcthe day of the Lord is coming; it is near,
2 bda day of darkness and gloom,
bea day of clouds and thick darkness!
Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains
bfa great and powerful people;
bgtheir like has never been before,
nor will be again after them
through the years of all generations.
3 bhFire devours before them,
and behind them a flame burns.
The land is like bithe garden of Eden before them,
but bjbehind them a desolate wilderness,
and nothing escapes them.
4 bkTheir appearance is like the appearance of horses,
and like war horses they run.
5 blAs with the rumbling of chariots,
they leap on the tops of the mountains,
like the crackling of bma flame of fire
devouring the stubble,
bnlike a powerful army
drawn up for battle.
6 Before them peoples are in anguish;
boall faces grow pale.
7Like warriors they charge;
like soldiers they scale the wall.
They march each on his way;
they do not swerve from their paths.
8They do not jostle one another;
bpeach marches in his path;
they burst through the weapons
and are not halted.
9 bqThey leap upon the city,
they run upon the walls,
brthey climb up into the houses,
bsthey enter through the windows btlike a thief.
10 buThe earth quakes before them;
the heavens tremble.
bvThe sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
11 bwThe Lord utters his voice
before bxhis army,
for his camp is exceedingly great;
byhe who executes his word is powerful.
bzFor the day of the Lord is cagreat and very awesome;
cbwho can endure it?

Joel 2:25

25I will restore
Or pay back
to you the years
that cdthe swarming locust has eaten,
cethe hopper, cfthe destroyer, and cgthe cutter,
chmy great army, which I sent among you.

Revelation of John 18:8

8For this reason her plagues will come ciin a single day,
death and mourning and famine,
and cjshe will be burned up with fire;
for ckmighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
