Isaiah 11:1-5

The Righteous Reign of the Branch

1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of aJesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2And bthe Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
3And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
cHe shall not judge by dwhat his eyes see,
or decide disputes by ewhat his ears hear,
4but fwith righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall gstrike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and hwith the breath of his lips ihe shall kill the wicked.
5Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and jfaithfulness the belt of his loins.

1 kThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has lanointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
Or afflicted

he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and nthe opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Or  the opening [of the eyes] to those who are blind; Septuagint  and recovery of sight to the blind

2 pto proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
qand the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3to grant to those who mourn in Zion
rto give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
sthe oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
tthat they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, uthat he may be glorified.
Or  that he may display his beauty

Then abyou will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me. 10 acSing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for adbehold, I come aeand I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord. 11 afAnd many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. agAnd I will dwell in your midst, and ahyou shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.
