Isaiah 11:14

14 aBut they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west,
and together they shall plunder bthe people of the east.
They shall put out their hand cagainst dEdom and eMoab,
and fthe Ammonites shall obey them.

Isaiah 15

An Oracle Concerning Moab

1An goracle concerning hMoab.

Because iAr of Moab is laid waste in a night,
Moab is undone;
because jKir of Moab is laid waste in a night,
Moab is undone.
2He has gone up to the temple,
Hebrew  the house
and to lDibon,
to the high places
Or temple, even Dibon to the high places
to weep;
over nNebo and over oMedeba
Moab pwails.
On every head is qbaldness;
every beard is shorn;
3in the streets they wear sackcloth;
on the housetops and in the squares
everyone wails and melts in tears.
4 rHeshbon and sElealeh cry out;
their voice is heard as far as tJahaz;
therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud;
his soul trembles.
5My heart cries out for Moab;
her fugitives flee to Zoar,
to uEglath-shelishiyah.
For at the vascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
on the road to wHoronaim
they raise a cry of destruction;
6the waters of xNimrim
are a desolation;
the grass is withered, the vegetation fails,
the greenery is no more.
7 yTherefore the abundance they have gained
and what they have laid up
they carry away
over the Brook of the Willows.
8For a cry has gone
around the land of Moab;
her wailing reaches to Eglaim;
her wailing reaches to Beer-elim.
9For the waters of zDibon
Dead Sea Scroll, Vulgate (compare Syriac); Masoretic Text Dimon; twice in this verse
are full of blood;
for I will bring upon Dibon even more,
aba lion for those of Moab who escape,
for the remnant of the land.

Isaiah 16

1 acSend the lamb to the ruler of the land,
from adSela, by way of the desert,
to the mount of the daughter of Zion.
2Like fleeing birds,
like a scattered nest,
so are the daughters of Moab
at aethe fords of the Arnon.
3 Give counsel;
grant justice;
afmake your shade like night
at the height of noon;
shelter the outcasts;
do not reveal the fugitive;
4let agthe outcasts of Moab
sojourn among you;
be a shelter to them
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Syriac; Masoretic Text  let my outcasts sojourn among you; as for Moab, be a shelter to them

from the destroyer.
When the oppressor is no more,
and destruction has ceased,
and he who tramples underfoot has vanished from the land,
5 aithen a throne will be established in steadfast love,
and on it will sit in faithfulness
in the tent of David
one who judges and seeks justice
and is swift to do righteousness.”
6 ajWe have heard of the pride of Moab
how proud he is!—
akof his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence;
in his idle boasting he is not right.
7Therefore let Moab wail for Moab,
allet everyone wail.
Mourn, utterly stricken,
for the amraisin cakes of anKir-hareseth.
8 For the fields of Heshbon languish,
and aothe vine of Sibmah;
the lords of the nations
have struck down its branches,
which reached to Jazer
and strayed to the desert;
its shoots spread abroad
and passed over the sea.
9Therefore apI weep with aqthe weeping of Jazer
for the vine of Sibmah;
I drench you with my tears,
O Heshbon and Elealeh;
for over aryour summer fruit and your harvest
the shout has ceased.
10 asAnd joy and gladness are taken away from atthe fruitful field,
and in the vineyards no ausongs are sung,
no cheers are raised;
no avtreader treads out wine awin the presses;
I have put an end to the shouting.
11Therefore axmy inner parts moan like a lyre for Moab,
and my inmost self for Kir-hareseth.
12And when Moab presents himself, when ayhe wearies himself on azthe high place, when he comes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not prevail.

13This is the word that the Lord spoke concerning Moab bain the past. 14But now the Lord has spoken, saying, “In three years, bblike the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be bcvery few and feeble.”

Isaiah 25:10

10For the hand of the Lord will rest bdon this mountain,
and beMoab shall be trampled down in his place,
as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.
The Hebrew words for  dunghill and for the Moabite town  Madmen (Jeremiah 48:2) sound alike

Jeremiah 48

Judgment on Moab

1 bgConcerning Moab.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:

Woe to bhNebo, for it is laid waste!
biKiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken;
the fortress is put to shame bjand broken down;
2the renown of Moab is no more.
In bkHeshbon they planned disaster against her:
Come, let us cut her off blfrom being a nation!’
You also, O bmMadmen, shall be brought to silence;
the sword shall pursue you.
3 “A voice! A cry from bnHoronaim,
Desolation and great destruction!’
4Moab is destroyed;
her little ones have made a cry.
5 boFor at the ascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
Hebrew weeping goes up with weeping

for bqat the descent of Horonaim
they have heard the distressed cry
Septuagint (compare Isaiah 15:5)  heard the cry
of destruction.
6Flee! Save yourselves!
You will be like bsa juniper in the desert!
7For, btbecause you trusted in your works and your treasures,
you also shall be taken;
and buChemosh bvshall go into exile
with bwhis priests and his officials.
8 bxThe destroyer shall come upon every city,
and no city shall escape;
the valley shall perish,
and bythe plain shall be destroyed,
as the Lord has spoken.
9 Give wings to Moab,
for she would fly away;
her cities shall become a desolation,
with no inhabitant in them.
10 bzCursed is he who does cathe work of the Lord with slackness, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed.

11 Moab has been at ease from his youth
and has cbsettled on his dregs;
he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel,
nor has he gone into exile;
so his taste remains in him,
and his scent is not changed.
12Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I shall send to him pourers who will pour him, and empty his vessels and break his
Septuagint, Aquila; Hebrew their
jars in pieces.
13Then cdMoab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as cethe house of Israel was ashamed of cfBethel, their confidence.

14 How do you say, ‘We are heroes
and mighty men of war’?
15The destroyer of cgMoab and his cities has come up,
and the choicest of his young men have chgone down to slaughter,
declares cithe King, cjwhose name is the Lord of hosts.
16The calamity of Moab is near at hand,
and his affliction hastens swiftly.
17 ckGrieve for him, all you who are around him,
and all who know his name;
say, clHow the mighty scepter is broken,
the glorious staff.’
18 cm“Come down from your glory,
and sit on the parched ground,
O inhabitant of cnDibon!
For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you;
he has destroyed your strongholds.
19 coStand by the way cpand watch,
O inhabitant of cqAroer!
Ask him who flees and her who escapes;
say, ‘What has happened?’
20Moab is put to shame, for it is broken;
crwail and cry!
Tell it beside csthe Arnon,
that ctMoab is laid waste.
21Judgment has come upon cuthe tableland, upon Holon, and cvJahzah, and Mephaath, 22and cwDibon, and cxNebo, and Beth-diblathaim, 23and cyKiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and czBeth-meon, 24and daKerioth, and dbBozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. 25 dcThe horn of Moab is cut off, and ddhis arm is broken, declares the Lord.

26 de“Make him drunk, dfbecause he magnified himself against the Lord, so that Moab shall dgwallow in his vomit, dhand he too shall be held in derision. 27 diWas not Israel a derision to you? djWas he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him dkyou wagged your head?

28 dlLeave the cities, and dwell in the rock,
O inhabitants of Moab!
Be dmlike the dove that nests
in the sides of the mouth of a gorge.
29 dnWe have heard of the pride of Moab
he is very proud
of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance,
and the haughtiness of his heart.
30I know his insolence, declares the Lord;
dohis boasts are false,
his deeds are false.
31 dpTherefore I wail for Moab;
I cry out for all Moab;
for the men of dqKir-hareseth I mourn.
32More than for drJazer I weep for you,
dsO vine of dtSibmah!
duYour branches passed over the sea,
reached to the Sea of dvJazer;
on your summer fruits and your grapes
the destroyer has fallen.
33 dwGladness and joy have been taken away
from the fruitful land of Moab;
I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;
no one treads them with shouts of joy;
the shouting is not the shout of joy.
34 dxFrom the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to dyHoronaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate. 35And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the Lord, him who offers sacrifice in dzthe high place and makes offerings to his god. 36Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of eaKir-hareseth. ebTherefore the riches they gained have perished.

37 ecFor every head is shaved and every beard cut off. edOn all the hands are gashes, and eearound the waist is sackcloth. 38On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like efa vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord. 39How it is broken! How they wail! egHow Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab ehhas become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.”

40 For thus says the Lord:
Behold, eione shall fly swiftly like an eagle
ejand spread his wings against Moab;
41 ekthe cities shall be taken
and the strongholds seized.
elThe heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day
like the heart of ema woman in her birth pains;
42Moab shall be endestroyed and be no longer a people,
because eohe magnified himself against the Lord.
43 epTerror, pit, and snare
are before you, O inhabitant of Moab!

declares the Lord.
44He who flees from the terror
shall fall into the pit,
and he who climbs out of the pit
shall be caught in the snare.
eqFor I will bring these things upon Moab,
the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
45 “In the shadow of Heshbon
fugitives stop without strength,
for fire came out from Heshbon,
flame from the house of Sihon;
it has destroyed erthe forehead of Moab,
the crown of esthe sons of tumult.
46 etWoe to you, O Moab!
The people of euChemosh are undone,
for your sons have been taken captive,
and your daughters into captivity.
47 evYet I will restore the fortunes of Moab
in the latter days, declares the Lord.”
Thus far is the judgment on Moab.

Jeremiah 49:1-7

Judgment on Ammon

1 ewConcerning the Ammonites.

Thus says the Lord:

“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then has exMilcom eydispossessed Gad,
and his people settled in its cities?
2Therefore, behold, the days are coming,
declares the Lord,
when I will cause ezthe battle cry to be heard
against faRabbah of the Ammonites;
it shall become a desolate fbmound,
and its villages shall be burned with fire;
then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him,
says the Lord.
3 Wail, O fcHeshbon, for Ai is laid waste!
Cry out, O daughters of fdRabbah!
fePut on sackcloth,
lament, and run to and fro among the hedges!
For ffMilcom shall go into exile,
fgwith his priests and his officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,
Hebrew  boast of your valleys, your valley flows

fiO faithless daughter,
fjwho trusted in her treasures, saying,
Who will come against me?’
5Behold, fkI will bring terror upon you,
declares the Lord God of hosts,
from all who are around you,
and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him,
with none to gather the fugitives.
6“But flafterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”

Judgment on Edom

7Concerning fmEdom.

Thus says the Lord of hosts:

fn“Is wisdom no more in foTeman?
fpHas counsel perished from the prudent?
fqHas their wisdom vanished?

Ezekiel 25

Prophecy Against Ammon

1The word of the Lord came to me: 2 frSon of man, fsset your face toward ftthe Ammonites and prophesy against them. 3Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord God: fuThus says the Lord God, Because you said, fvAha!’ over my fwsanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile, 4therefore behold, I am handing you over to fxthe people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. 5I will make fyRabbah a fzpasture for camels and Ammon
Hebrew  and the Ammonites
gba fold for flocks. gcThen you will know that I am the Lord.
6For thus says the Lord God: Because gdyou have clapped your hands geand stamped your feet and gfrejoiced with all the ggmalice within your soul against the land of Israel, 7therefore, behold, ghI have stretched out my hand against you, and giwill hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

Prophecy Against Moab and Seir

8Thus says the Lord God: Because gjMoab and gkSeir
Septuagint lacks  and Seir
said, ‘Behold, the gmhouse of Judah is like all the other nations,’
9therefore gnI will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, goBeth-jeshimoth, gpBaal-meon, and gqKiriathaim. 10I will give it gralong with the Ammonites gsto the people of the East as a possession, gtthat the Ammonites may be remembered no more among the nations, 11 guand I will execute judgments upon Moab. gvThen they will know that I am the Lord.

Prophecy Against Edom

12Thus says the Lord God: Because gwEdom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended gxin taking vengeance on them, 13therefore thus says the Lord God, gyI will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from gzTeman even to haDedan they shall fall by the sword. 14And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom hbby the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and hcthey shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.

Prophecy Against Philistia

15Thus says the Lord God: Because hdthe Philistines heacted revengefully and took vengeance hfwith malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity, 16therefore thus says the Lord God, hgBehold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off hhthe Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast. 17I will execute great vengeance on them hiwith wrathful rebukes. hjThen they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

Ezekiel 26

Prophecy Against Tyre

1 hkIn the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 2 hlSon of man, because hmTyre said concerning Jerusalem, hnAha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’ 3therefore thus says the Lord God: hoBehold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will bring up hpmany nations against you, hqas the sea brings up its waves. 4They shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers, and I will scrape her soil from her and hrmake her a bare rock. 5She hsshall be in the midst of the sea a place for the spreading of nets, htfor I have spoken, declares the Lord God. And she shall become plunder for the nations, 6and her daughters on the mainland shall be killed by the sword. huThen they will know that I am the Lord.

7For thus says the Lord God: hvBehold, I will bring against Tyre hwfrom the north Nebuchadnezzar
Hebrew Nebuchadrezzar; so throughout Ezekiel
king of Babylon, hyking of kings, with horses and chariots, and with horsemen and a host of many soldiers.
8He will kill with the sword hzyour daughters on the mainland. iaHe will set up a siege wall against you and throw up a mound against you, and raise iba roof of shields against you. 9 icHe will direct the shock of his battering rams against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers. 10His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen and wagons and chariots, when he enters your gates as men enter a city that has been breached. 11With the hoofs of his horses he will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground. 12They will plunder idyour riches and loot ieyour merchandise. They will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. Your stones and timber and ifsoil they will cast into the midst of the waters. 13 igAnd I will stop the music of your songs, and ihthe sound of your lyres shall be heard no more. 14 iiI will make you a bare rock. ijYou shall be a place for the spreading of nets. You shall never be rebuilt, ikfor I am the Lord; I have spoken, declares the Lord God.

15Thus says the Lord God to Tyre: Will not ilthe coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, imwhen the wounded groan, when slaughter is made in your midst? 16Then all inthe princes of the sea will step down from their thrones and ioremove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling; ipthey will sit on the ground and iqtremble every moment and irbe appalled at you. 17And they will israise a lamentation over you and say to you,

“‘How you have perished,
you who were inhabited from the seas,
O city renowned,
itwho was mighty on the sea;
she and her inhabitants iuimposed their terror
on all her inhabitants!
18Now the coastlands tremble
on the day of your fall,
and the coastlands that are on the sea
are dismayed at your passing.’
19For thus says the Lord God: When I make you a city laid waste, like the cities that are not inhabited, ivwhen I bring up the deep over you, and the great waters cover you, 20then iwI will make you go down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you to dwell in the world below, among ruins from of old, ixwith those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will set beauty iyin the land of the living. 21I will bring you izto a dreadful end, and you shall be no more. jaThough you be sought for, you will never be found again, declares the Lord God.”
