Isaiah 13:15-18

15Whoever is found will be thrust through,
and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.
16 aTheir infants will be dashed in pieces
before their eyes;
their houses will be plundered
and their wives ravished.
17 Behold, bI am stirring up the Medes against them,
who have no regard for silver
and do not delight in gold.
18 cTheir bows will slaughter
Hebrew dash in pieces
the young men;
they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb;
their eyes will not pity children.

Isaiah 47:10-15

10 You felt secure in your wickedness;
you said, “No one sees me”;
your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray,
and you said in your heart,
eI am, and there is no one besides me.”
11But evil shall come upon you,
which you will not know how to charm away;
disaster shall fall upon you,
for which you will not be able to atone;
fand ruin shall come upon you suddenly,
of which you know nothing.
12 gStand fast in your enchantments
and your many sorceries,
with which you have labored from your youth;
perhaps you may be able to succeed;
perhaps you may inspire terror.
13You are wearied with your many counsels;
let them stand forth and save you,
hthose who divide the heavens,
who gaze at the stars,
who at the new moons make known
what shall come upon you.
14 Behold, ithey are like stubble;
jthe fire consumes them;
they cannot deliver themselves
from the power of the flame.
No coal for warming oneself is this,
no fire to sit before!
15Such to you are those with whom you have labored,
who have done business with you from your youth;
they wander about, each in his own direction;
there is no one to save you.

Jeremiah 6:22-23

22 Thus says the Lord:
kBehold, a people is coming lfrom the north country,
a great nation is stirring from mthe farthest parts of the earth.
23They lay hold on bow and javelin;
they are ncruel and have no mercy;
othe sound of them is like the roaring sea;
they ride on horses,
set in array as a man for battle,
against you, O daughter of Zion!”

Jeremiah 50:40-42

40 pAs when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, declares the Lord, qso no man shall dwell there, and no son of man shall sojourn in her.

41 rBehold, a people comes from the north;
a mighty nation and many kings
are stirring from the farthest parts of the earth.
42They lay hold of bow and spear;
they are cruel and have no mercy.
The sound of them is like the roaring of the sea;
they ride on horses,
arrayed as a man for battle
against you, O daughter of Babylon!

Jeremiah 51:35-58

35The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon,”
let the inhabitant of Zion say.
“My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,”
let Jerusalem say.
36Therefore thus says the Lord:
Behold, sI will plead your cause
and take vengeance for you.
tI will dry up her sea
and umake her fountain dry,
37and Babylon shall become va heap of ruins,
wthe haunt of jackals,
xa horror yand a hissing,
without inhabitant.
38 z“They shall roar together aalike lions;
they shall growl like lionscubs.
39 abWhile they are inflamed acI will prepare them a feast
and admake them drunk, that they may become merry,
aethen sleep a perpetual sleep
and not wake, declares the Lord.
40I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter,
like rams and male goats.
41 How afBabylon
Hebrew Sheshach, a code name for Babylon
is taken,
ahthe praise of the whole earth aiseized!
How Babylon has become
a horror among the nations!
42 ajThe sea has come up on Babylon;
she is covered with its tumultuous waves.
43Her cities have become a horror,
aka land of drought and a desert,
ala land in which no one dwells,
and through which no son of man passes.
44And I will punish amBel in Babylon,
and antake out of his mouth aowhat he has swallowed.
apThe nations shall no longer flow to him;
aqthe wall of Babylon has fallen.
45 Go out of the midst of her, army people!
Let every one save his life
from asthe fierce anger of the Lord!
46Let not your heart faint, and be not fearful
atat the report heard in the land,
auwhen a report comes in one year
and afterward a report in another year,
and violence is in the land,
avand ruler is against ruler.
47 Therefore, behold, the days are coming
when awI will punish the images of Babylon;
axher whole land shall be put to shame,
and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.
48 ayThen the heavens and the earth,
and all that is in them,
shall sing for joy over Babylon,
azfor the destroyers shall come against them out of the north,

declares the Lord.
49Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel,
bajust as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth.
50 bb“You who have escaped from the sword,
go, do not stand still!
Remember the Lord from far away,
and let Jerusalem come into your mind:
51 bc‘We are put to shame, for we have heard reproach;
bddishonor has covered our face,
befor foreigners have come
into the holy places of the Lord’s house.’
52 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when bfI will execute judgment upon her images,
bgand through all her land
the wounded shall groan.
53Though Babylon should bhmount up to heaven,
and though she should bifortify her strong height,
yet destroyers would come from me against her,
declares the Lord.
54 bj“A voice! A cry from Babylon!
The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55For the Lord is laying Babylon waste
and stilling her mighty voice.
bkTheir waves roar like many waters;
the noise of their voice is raised,
56for a destroyer has come upon her,
upon Babylon;
her warriors are taken;
their bows are broken in pieces,
blfor the Lord is a God of recompense;
he will surely repay.
57 bmI will make drunk her officials and her wise men,
bnher governors, her commanders, and her warriors;
they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake,
declares bothe King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
58 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
The broad bpwall of Babylon
shall be leveled to the ground,
bqand her high gates
shall be burned with fire.
brThe peoples labor for nothing,
and bsthe nations weary themselves only for fire.”

Nahum 1:2

God’s Wrath Against Nineveh

2 btThe Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
buthe Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and bvkeeps wrath for his enemies.

Nahum 1:6

6 bwWho can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath bxis poured out like fire,
and bythe rocks are broken into pieces by him.
