Isaiah 13:3-5

3I myself have commanded my consecrated ones,
and have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger,
my proudly exulting ones.
Or those who exult in my majesty

4 The sound bof a tumult is on the mountains
as of a great multitude!
The sound of an uproar of kingdoms,
of nations gathering together!
cThe Lord of hosts is mustering
a host for battle.
5 dThey come from a distant land,
from the end of the heavens,
the Lord and the weapons of his indignation,
to destroy the whole land.

Isaiah 13:17-18

17 Behold, fI am stirring up the Medes against them,
who have no regard for silver
and do not delight in gold.
18 gTheir bows will slaughter
Hebrew dash in pieces
the young men;
they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb;
their eyes will not pity children.

Isaiah 44:28

28who says of iCyrus, ‘He is jmy shepherd,
and he shall fulfill all my purpose’;
saying of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be built,’
kand of the temple, ‘Your foundation shall be laid.’”

Cyrus, God’s Instrument

1 Thus says the Lord to lhis anointed, to Cyrus,
mwhose right hand I have grasped,
to subdue nations before him
and nto loose the belts of kings,
to open doors before him
that gates may not be closed:
2I will go before you
and olevel the exalted places,

qI will break in pieces the doors of bronze
and cut through the bars of iron,
3 rI will give you the treasures of darkness
and the hoards in secret places,
that you may know that it is I, the Lord,

4For the sake of my servant Jacob,
and Israel my chosen,
tI call you by your name,
uI name you, though you do not know me.
5 vI am the Lord, and there is no other,
besides me there is no God;
wI equip you, though you do not know me,
