Moab ^fwails.
On every head is ^gbaldness;
every beard is shorn;
3 in the streets they wear sackcloth;
on the housetops and in the squares
everyone wails and melts in tears.
4 ^hHeshbon and ⁱElealeh cry out;
their voice is heard as far as ^jJahaz;
therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud;
his soul trembles.
5 My heart cries out for Moab;
her fugitives flee to Zoar,
to ^kEglath-shelishiyah.
For at the ^lascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
on the road to ^mHoronaim
they raise a cry of destruction;

20 Moab is put to shame, for it is broken;
ⁿwail and cry!
Tell it beside ^othe Arnon,
that ^pMoab is laid waste.
21 “Judgment has come upon ^qthe tableland, upon Holon, and ^rJahzah, and Mephaath, 22 and ^sDibon, and ^tNebo, and Beth-diblathaim, 23 and ^uKiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and ^vBeth-meon, 24 and ^wKerioth, and ^xBozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.

Jeremiah 48:31-34

31 ^yTherefore I wail for Moab;
I cry out for all Moab;
for the men of ^zKir-hareseth I mourn.
32 More than for ^aaJazer I weep for you,
^abO vine of ^acSibmah!
^adYour branches passed over the sea,
reached to the Sea of ^aeJazer;
on your summer fruits and your grapes
the destroyer has fallen.
33 ^afGladness and joy have been taken away
from the fruitful land of Moab;
I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;
no one treads them with shouts of joy;
the shouting is not the shout of joy.
34 ^ag“From the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to ^ahHoronaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate.
