A Cornerstone in Zion

14 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you gscoffers,
who rule this people in Jerusalem!
15Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death,
and with Sheol we have an agreement,
when the hoverwhelming whip passes through
it will not come to us,
for we have made ilies our refuge,
and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;
16therefore thus says the Lord God,
jBehold, I am the one who has laid
Dead Sea Scroll  I am laying
as a foundation lin Zion,
a stone, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:
‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’
17And I will make justice mthe line,
and righteousness nthe plumb line;
and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”
18Then oyour covenant with death will be annulled,
and your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
when the overwhelming scourge passes through,
you will be beaten down by it.

Exile Threatened

15 Hear and give ear; be not proud,
for the Lord has spoken.
16 pGive glory to the Lord your God
qbefore he brings darkness,
before your feet stumble
on the twilight mountains,
and rwhile you look for light
he turns it into gloom
and makes it sdeep darkness.
17But if you will not listen,
tmy soul will weep in secret for your pride;
my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears,
because the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.
