Isaiah 21:2-4

2 A stern vision is told to me;
^athe traitor betrays,
and the destroyer destroys.
Go up, O ^bElam;
lay siege, O ^cMedia;
all the ^dsighing she has caused
I bring to an end.
3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish;
^epangs have seized me,
like the pangs of a woman in labor;
I am bowed down so that I cannot hear;
I am dismayed so that I cannot see.
4 My heart staggers; horror has appalled me;
^fthe twilight I longed for
has been turned for me into trembling.

Jeremiah 4:19-21

Anguish over Judah’s Desolation

19 ^gMy anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain!
Oh the walls of my heart!
My heart is beating wildly;
I cannot keep silent,
for I hear the sound of the trumpet,
the alarm of war.
20 ^hCrash follows hard on crash;
the whole land is laid waste.
ⁱSuddenly my tents are laid waste,
my curtains in a moment.
21 How long must I see the standard
and hear the sound of the trumpet?

Jeremiah 51:54-56

54 ^j“A voice! A cry from Babylon!
The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55 For the Lord is laying Babylon waste
and stilling her mighty voice.
^kTheir waves roar like many waters;
the noise of their voice is raised,
56 for a destroyer has come upon her,
upon Babylon;
her warriors are taken;
their bows are broken in pieces,
^lfor the Lord is a God of recompense;
he will surely repay.
