so that you did not lay these things to heart
or remember their end.
8 Now therefore hear this, pyou lover of pleasures,
qwho sit securely,

rI am, and there is no one besides me;
sI shall not sit as a widow
or know the loss of children”:
9 tThese two things shall come to you

y“Because your heart is proud,
and zyou have said, ‘I am a god,
I sit in the seat of the gods,
in the heart of the seas,’
yet aayou are but a man, and no god,
abthough you make your heart like the heart of a god
3 acyou are indeed wiser adthan aeDaniel;
no secret is hidden from you;
4by your wisdom and your understanding
afyou have made wealth for yourself,
and have gathered gold and silver
into your treasuries;
5by your great wisdom in your trade
you have increased your wealth,
and agyour heart has become proud in your wealth
6therefore thus says the Lord God:
ahBecause you make your heart
like the heart of a god,
7therefore, behold, I will bring aiforeigners upon you,
the most ruthless of the nations;
and they shall draw their swords against ajthe beauty of your wisdom
and defile akyour splendor.
8 alThey shall thrust you down into the pit,
amand you shall die the death of the slain
in the heart of the seas.
9 anWill you still say, ‘I am a god,’
in the presence of those who kill you,
though aoyou are but a man, and no god,
in the hands of those who slay you?
10 apYou shall die the death of the uncircumcised
by the hand of foreigners;
aqfor I have spoken, declares the Lord God.”

atEveryone who passes by her
hisses and aushakes his fist.

2 Thessalonians 2:4-8

4who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, avproclaiming himself to be God. 5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7For awthe mystery of lawlessness axis already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8And then aythe lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus azwill kill with bathe breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by bbthe appearance of his coming.
