Isaiah 23:1-6

An Oracle Concerning Tyre and Sidon

1The aoracle concerning bTyre.

Wail, O cships of Tarshish,
for Tyre is laid waste, dwithout house or harbor!
From ethe land of Cyprus
Hebrew Kittim; also verse 12

it is revealed to them.
2Be still, O inhabitants of the coast;
the merchants of gSidon, who cross the sea, have filled you.
3And on many waters
your revenue was the grain of Shihor,
the harvest of the Nile;
you were hthe merchant of the nations.
4Be ashamed, O iSidon, for the sea has spoken,
the stronghold of the sea, saying:
“I have neither labored nor given birth,
I have neither reared young men
nor brought up young women.”
5When the report comes to Egypt,
they will be in anguish
Hebrew  they will have labor pains
over the report about Tyre.
6 kCross over to Tarshish;
wail, O inhabitants of the coast!

Ezekiel 26:17

17And they will lraise a lamentation over you and say to you,

“‘How you have perished,
you who were inhabited from the seas,
O city renowned,
mwho was mighty on the sea;
she and her inhabitants nimposed their terror
on all her inhabitants!

Ezekiel 27:31-32

31they omake themselves bald for you
and put sackcloth on their waist,
and they weep over you in bitterness of soul,
with bitter mourning.
32In their wailing they praise a lamentation for you
and lament over you:
qWho is like Tyre,
like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?

Revelation of John 18:9-19

9And rthe kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, swill weep and wail over her twhen they see the smoke of her burning. 10 uThey will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,

Alas! Alas! vYou great city,
you mighty city, Babylon!
For win a single hour your judgment has come.”
11And xthe merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.

14 “The fruit for which your soul longed
has gone from you,
and all your delicacies and your splendors
are lost to you,
never to be found again!”
15 zThe merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, aawill stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,

16 Alas, alas, for the great city
abthat was clothed in fine linen,
in purple and scarlet,
adorned with gold,
with jewels, and with pearls!
17For acin a single hour all this wealth adhas been laid waste.”
And aeall shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off
18and afcried out agas they saw the smoke of her burning,

ahWhat city was like the great city?”
19And they threw aidust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

Alas, alas, for the great city
ajwhere all who had ships at sea
grew rich by her wealth!
For akin a single hour she has been laid waste.
