Isaiah 24:5-6

5The earth lies adefiled
under its inhabitants;
for bthey have transgressed the laws,
violated the statutes,
broken the everlasting covenant.
6Therefore ca curse devours the earth,
and its inhabitants dsuffer for their guilt;
therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched,
and few men are left.

Isaiah 50:1

Israel’s Sin and the Servant’s Obedience

1 Thus says the Lord:
Where is eyour mother’s certificate of divorce,
with which fI sent her away?
Or gwhich of my creditors is it
to whom I have sold you?
hBehold, for your iniquities you were sold,
and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.

Isaiah 59:12-15

12For our transgressions are multiplied before you,
and our sins testify against us;
for our transgressions are with us,
and we know our iniquities:
13transgressing, and denying the Lord,
and turning back from following our God,
ispeaking oppression and revolt,
conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.

Judgment and Redemption

14 jJustice is turned back,
and righteousness stands far away;
for truth has stumbled in the public squares,
and uprightness cannot enter.
15Truth is lacking,
and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
The Lord saw it, and it displeased him
Hebrew  and it was evil in his eyes

that there was no justice.

Jeremiah 2:17

17 lHave you not brought this upon yourself
by forsaking the Lord your God,
when mhe led you in the way?

19 nYour evil will chastise you,
and oyour apostasy will reprove you.
Know and see that it is evil and pbitter

the fear of me is not in you,

declares the Lord God of hosts.

The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain
into wa yoke;
by his hand they were fastened together;
they were set upon my neck;
he caused my strength to fail;
the Lord gave me into the hands
of those whom I cannot withstand.

yfor I have rebelled against his word;
but hear, all you peoples,
and see my suffering;
zmy young women and my young men
have gone into captivity.

Lamentations 4:13-15

13 This was for aathe sins of her prophets
and abthe iniquities of her priests,
who shed in the midst of her
the blood of the righteous.
14 acThey wandered, blind, through the streets;
they were so defiled with blood
adthat no one was able to touch
their garments.
15 Away! aeUnclean!” people cried at them.
Away! Away! Do not touch!”
So they became fugitives and wanderers;
people said among the nations,
“They shall stay with us no longer.”
