Isaiah 25:10-12

10For the hand of the Lord will rest aon this mountain,
and bMoab shall be trampled down in his place,
as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.
The Hebrew words for  dunghill and for the Moabite town  Madmen (Jeremiah 48:2) sound alike

11 dAnd he will spread out his hands in the midst of it
as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim,
but the Lord ewill lay low his pompous pride together with the skill
Or in spite of the skill
of his hands.
12And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down,
lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust.

Jeremiah 48

Judgment on Moab

1 gConcerning Moab.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:

Woe to hNebo, for it is laid waste!
iKiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken;
the fortress is put to shame jand broken down;
2the renown of Moab is no more.
In kHeshbon they planned disaster against her:
Come, let us cut her off lfrom being a nation!’
You also, O mMadmen, shall be brought to silence;
the sword shall pursue you.
3 “A voice! A cry from nHoronaim,
Desolation and great destruction!’
4Moab is destroyed;
her little ones have made a cry.
5 oFor at the ascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
Hebrew weeping goes up with weeping

for qat the descent of Horonaim
they have heard the distressed cry
Septuagint (compare Isaiah 15:5)  heard the cry
of destruction.
6Flee! Save yourselves!
You will be like sa juniper in the desert!
7For, tbecause you trusted in your works and your treasures,
you also shall be taken;
and uChemosh vshall go into exile
with whis priests and his officials.
8 xThe destroyer shall come upon every city,
and no city shall escape;
the valley shall perish,
and ythe plain shall be destroyed,
as the Lord has spoken.
9 Give wings to Moab,
for she would fly away;
her cities shall become a desolation,
with no inhabitant in them.
10 zCursed is he who does aathe work of the Lord with slackness, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed.

11 Moab has been at ease from his youth
and has absettled on his dregs;
he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel,
nor has he gone into exile;
so his taste remains in him,
and his scent is not changed.
12Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I shall send to him pourers who will pour him, and empty his vessels and break his
Septuagint, Aquila; Hebrew their
jars in pieces.
13Then adMoab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as aethe house of Israel was ashamed of afBethel, their confidence.

14 How do you say, ‘We are heroes
and mighty men of war’?
15The destroyer of agMoab and his cities has come up,
and the choicest of his young men have ahgone down to slaughter,
declares aithe King, ajwhose name is the Lord of hosts.
16The calamity of Moab is near at hand,
and his affliction hastens swiftly.
17 akGrieve for him, all you who are around him,
and all who know his name;
say, alHow the mighty scepter is broken,
the glorious staff.’
18 am“Come down from your glory,
and sit on the parched ground,
O inhabitant of anDibon!
For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you;
he has destroyed your strongholds.
19 aoStand by the way apand watch,
O inhabitant of aqAroer!
Ask him who flees and her who escapes;
say, ‘What has happened?’
20Moab is put to shame, for it is broken;
arwail and cry!
Tell it beside asthe Arnon,
that atMoab is laid waste.
21Judgment has come upon authe tableland, upon Holon, and avJahzah, and Mephaath, 22and awDibon, and axNebo, and Beth-diblathaim, 23and ayKiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and azBeth-meon, 24and baKerioth, and bbBozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. 25 bcThe horn of Moab is cut off, and bdhis arm is broken, declares the Lord.

26 be“Make him drunk, bfbecause he magnified himself against the Lord, so that Moab shall bgwallow in his vomit, bhand he too shall be held in derision. 27 biWas not Israel a derision to you? bjWas he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him bkyou wagged your head?

28 blLeave the cities, and dwell in the rock,
O inhabitants of Moab!
Be bmlike the dove that nests
in the sides of the mouth of a gorge.
29 bnWe have heard of the pride of Moab
he is very proud
of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance,
and the haughtiness of his heart.
30I know his insolence, declares the Lord;
bohis boasts are false,
his deeds are false.
31 bpTherefore I wail for Moab;
I cry out for all Moab;
for the men of bqKir-hareseth I mourn.
32More than for brJazer I weep for you,
bsO vine of btSibmah!
buYour branches passed over the sea,
reached to the Sea of bvJazer;
on your summer fruits and your grapes
the destroyer has fallen.
33 bwGladness and joy have been taken away
from the fruitful land of Moab;
I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;
no one treads them with shouts of joy;
the shouting is not the shout of joy.
34 bxFrom the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to byHoronaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate. 35And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the Lord, him who offers sacrifice in bzthe high place and makes offerings to his god. 36Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of caKir-hareseth. cbTherefore the riches they gained have perished.

37 ccFor every head is shaved and every beard cut off. cdOn all the hands are gashes, and cearound the waist is sackcloth. 38On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like cfa vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord. 39How it is broken! How they wail! cgHow Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab chhas become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.”

40 For thus says the Lord:
Behold, cione shall fly swiftly like an eagle
cjand spread his wings against Moab;
41 ckthe cities shall be taken
and the strongholds seized.
clThe heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day
like the heart of cma woman in her birth pains;
42Moab shall be cndestroyed and be no longer a people,
because cohe magnified himself against the Lord.
43 cpTerror, pit, and snare
are before you, O inhabitant of Moab!

declares the Lord.
44He who flees from the terror
shall fall into the pit,
and he who climbs out of the pit
shall be caught in the snare.
cqFor I will bring these things upon Moab,
the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
45 “In the shadow of Heshbon
fugitives stop without strength,
for fire came out from Heshbon,
flame from the house of Sihon;
it has destroyed crthe forehead of Moab,
the crown of csthe sons of tumult.
46 ctWoe to you, O Moab!
The people of cuChemosh are undone,
for your sons have been taken captive,
and your daughters into captivity.
47 cvYet I will restore the fortunes of Moab
in the latter days, declares the Lord.”
Thus far is the judgment on Moab.

Ezekiel 25:8-11

Prophecy Against Moab and Seir

8Thus says the Lord God: Because cwMoab and cxSeir
Septuagint lacks  and Seir
said, ‘Behold, the czhouse of Judah is like all the other nations,’
9therefore daI will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, dbBeth-jeshimoth, dcBaal-meon, and ddKiriathaim. 10I will give it dealong with the Ammonites dfto the people of the East as a possession, dgthat the Ammonites may be remembered no more among the nations, 11 dhand I will execute judgments upon Moab. diThen they will know that I am the Lord.

Amos 2:1-3

1Thus says the Lord:

dj“For three transgressions of dkMoab,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
Hebrew  I will not turn it back; also verses 4, 6

because dmhe burned to lime
the bones of the king of Edom.
2So I will send a fire upon Moab,
and it shall devour the strongholds of dnKerioth,
and Moab shall die amid uproar,
amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;
3 doI will cut off the ruler from its midst,
and will kill dpall its princes
Or officials
with him,”

says the Lord.

Zephaniah 2:8-11

8 “I have heard drthe taunts of Moab
and dsthe revilings of the Ammonites,
how they have taunted my people
and made boasts dtagainst their territory.
9Therefore, duas I live,” declares the Lord of hosts,
the God of Israel,
Moab shall become dvlike Sodom,
and the Ammonites dwlike Gomorrah,
a land possessed by nettles and salt pits,
and a waste forever.
The remnant of my people shall plunder them,
and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”
10This shall be their lot in return dxfor their pride,
because they taunted and boasted
against the people of the Lord of hosts.
11The Lord will be awesome against them;
dyfor he will famish all the gods of the earth,
and dzto him shall bow down,
each in its place,
all eathe lands of the nations.
