Isaiah 28:1

Judgment on Ephraim and Jerusalem

1 Ah, the proud crown of athe drunkards of Ephraim,
and the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine!

Isaiah 28:4

4 band the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
which is on the head of the rich valley,
will be like ca first-ripe fig before the summer:
when someone sees it, he swallows it
as soon as it is in his hand.

Isaiah 40:7-8

7The grass withers, the flower fades
when the breath of the Lord blows on it;
surely the people are grass.
8 dThe grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.

Luke 12:16-21

16And he told them a parable, saying, e“The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17and he thought to himself, fWhat shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my gbarns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up hfor many years; relax, ieat, drink, be merry.”’ 20But God said to him, jFool! kThis night lyour soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, mwhose will they be?’ 21So is the one nwho lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19There was a rich man who was clothed in opurple and fine linen and pwho feasted sumptuously every day. 20And at his gate qwas laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21who desired to be fed with rwhat fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22The poor man died and was carried by sthe angels tto Abraham’s side.

The rich man also died and was buried,
23and in vHades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and wsaw Abraham far off and Lazarus xat his side. 24And he called out, yFather Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and zcool my tongue, for aaI am in anguish in this flame.’ 25But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that abyou in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

1 Corinthians 7:31
