Isaiah 29:13

13 And the Lord said:
Because athis people bdraw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,

Jeremiah 9:3-8

3 cThey bend their tongue like a bow;
falsehood and not truth has grown strong
Septuagint; Hebrew  and not for truth they have grown strong
in the land;
for they proceed from evil to evil,
eand they do not know me, declares the Lord.
4 fLet everyone beware of his neighbor,
and put no trust in any brother,
for every gbrother is a deceiver,
and every neighbor hgoes about as a slanderer.
5Everyone deceives his neighbor,
and no one speaks the truth;
they have taught their tongue to speak lies;
they weary themselves committing iniquity.
6Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit,
ithey refuse to know me, declares the Lord.
7 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts:
Behold, jI will refine them and ktest them,
for what else can I do, lbecause of my people?
8 mTheir tongue is a deadly arrow;
nit speaks deceitfully;
with his mouth oeach speaks peace to his neighbor,
but in his heart phe plans an ambush for him.

Ezekiel 2:6-8

6And you, son of man, qbe not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, rthough briers and thorns are with you and you sit on sscorpions.
Or  on scorpion plants
Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.
7And you shall speak my words to them, uwhether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

8“But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. vBe not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and weat what I give you.”

Ezekiel 33:31

31 xAnd they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for ywith lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain.

James 3:6-10

6And zthe tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, aastaining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,
Or wheel of birth
and set on fire by hell.
Greek Gehenna
7For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, adfull of deadly poison. 9With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people aewho are made in the likeness of God. 10From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verse 12
these things ought not to be so.
