Isaiah 3:16-26

16 The Lord said:
aBecause bthe daughters of Zion are haughty
and walk with outstretched necks,
glancing wantonly with their eyes,
mincing along as they go,
ctinkling with their feet,
17therefore the Lord dwill strike with a scab
the heads of ethe daughters of Zion,
and the Lord will lay bare their secret parts.
18In that day the Lord will take away fthe finery of the anklets, the gheadbands, and the hcrescents; 19the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves; 20the iheaddresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; 21the signet rings and jnose rings; 22the kfestal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags; 23the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.

24 Instead of lperfume there will be rottenness;
and instead of a mbelt, a rope;
and instead of nwell-set hair, obaldness;
and instead of a rich robe, a pskirt of sackcloth;
and qbranding instead of beauty.
25Your men shall fall by the sword
and your mighty men in battle.
26And rher gates shall lament and mourn;
empty, she shall ssit on the ground.

Isaiah 4:1

Isaiah 32:9-13

Complacent Women Warned of Disaster

9 xRise up, you women ywho are at ease, hear my voice;
you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech.
10In little more than a year
you will shudder, you complacent women;
for the grape harvest fails,
the fruit harvest will not come.
11Tremble, you women zwho are at ease,
shudder, you complacent ones;
aastrip, and make yourselves bare,
aband tie sackcloth around your waist.
12 acBeat your breasts for the pleasant fields,
for the fruitful vine,
13 adfor the soil of my people
growing up in thorns and briers,
aeyes, for all the joyous houses
in the exultant city.

Luke 23:27-30

27And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were afmourning and lamenting for him. 28But turning to them Jesus said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For behold, agthe days are coming when they will say, ahBlessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 aiThen they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’
