20And though the Lord give you the abread of adversity and the bwater of affliction, cyet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher.

Matthew 26:5

5But they said, “Not during the feast, dlest there be an uproar among the people.”

Matthew 27:29-54

29and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they emocked him, saying, “Hail, fKing of the Jews!” 30And gthey spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and hled him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion

32 i, jAs they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to kcarry his cross. 33 lAnd when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 mthey offered him wine to drink, mixed with ngall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35And when they had crucified him, othey divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36Then they sat down and pkept watch over him there. 37And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, qthe King of the Jews.” 38Then two rrobbers were crucified with him, sone on the right and one on the left. 39And tthose who passed by uderided him, vwagging their heads 40and saying, w“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! xIf you are ythe Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 z“He saved others; aahe cannot save himself. abHe is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 acHe trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 adAnd the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

The Death of Jesus

45Now from the sixth hour
That is, noon
there was darkness over all the land
Or earth
until the ninth hour.
That is, 3 p.m.
46And about the ninth hour Jesus ahcried out with a loud voice, saying, aiEli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with ajsour wine, and put it on a reed and akgave it to him to drink. 49But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50And Jesus alcried out again with a loud voice and amyielded up his spirit.

51And behold, anthe curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And aothe earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of apthe saints aqwho had fallen asleep were raised, 53and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into arthe holy city and appeared to many. 54 asWhen the centurion and those who were with him, atkeeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, auTruly this was the Son
Or a son
of God!”

Acts 2:1-12

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1When awthe day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like axa mighty rushing wind, and ayit filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3And divided tongues azas of fire appeared to them and rested
Or  And tongues as of fire appeared to them, distributed among them, and rested
on each one of them.
4And they were all bbfilled with the Holy Spirit and began bcto speak in other tongues bdas the Spirit gave them utterance.

5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And beat this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7And bfthey were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking bgGalileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9Parthians and bhMedes and biElamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and bjproselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12And bkall were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

Acts 4:16-21

16saying, blWhat shall we do with these men? For that bma notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them bnto speak no more to anyone in this name.” 18So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19But Peter and John answered them, boWhether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20for bpwe cannot but speak of what bqwe have seen and heard.” 21And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, brbecause of the people, for all were praising God bsfor what had happened.

Acts 5:18-42

18they arrested the apostles and btput them in the public prison. 19But during the night buan angel of the Lord bvopened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, 20Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all bwthe words of bxthis byLife.” 21And when they heard this, bzthey entered the temple caat daybreak and began to teach.

Now when the high priest came, and those who were with him, they called together the council, all the senate of the people of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22But when the officers came, they did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, 23“We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them we found no one inside.” 24Now when cbthe captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to. 25And someone came and told them, “Look! The men whom you put in prison ccare standing in the temple and teaching the people.” 26Then cdthe captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for cethey were afraid of being stoned by the people.

27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28saying, cf“We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you cgintend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29But Peter and the apostles answered, ch“We must obey God rather than men. 30 ciThe God of our fathers cjraised Jesus, ckwhom you killed by hanging him on cla tree. 31God exalted cmhim at his right hand as cnLeader and coSavior, cpto give cqrepentance to Israel and crforgiveness of sins. 32And cswe are witnesses to these things, and ctso is the Holy Spirit, cuwhom God has given to those who obey him.”

33When they heard this, they cvwere enraged and wanted to kill them. 34But a Pharisee in the council named cwGamaliel, cxa teacher of the law held in honor by all the people, stood up and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while. 35And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you are about to do with these men. 36For cybefore these days Theudas rose up, czclaiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37After him Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of dathe census and drew away some of the people after him. He too perished, and all who followed him were scattered. 38So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for dbif this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; 39but dcif it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You ddmight even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, 40and dewhen they had called in the apostles, dfthey beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41Then they left the presence of the council, dgrejoicing that they were counted worthy dhto suffer dishonor for dithe name. 42And every day, djin the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and dkpreaching dlthat the Christ is Jesus.
