33For aa burning place
Or  For Topheth
has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, cits pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; dthe breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.

Isaiah 37:36-38

36 eAnd the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. 37Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned home and lived at fNineveh. 38And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword. And after they escaped into the land of gArarat, hEsarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

Nahum 1:7-12

7 iThe Lord is good,
ja stronghold in the day of trouble;
khe knows those who take refuge in him.
8But lwith an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
Hebrew  of her place

and nwill pursue his enemies into darkness.
9What odo you plot against the Lord?
pHe will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
10For they are qlike entangled thorns,
like drunkards as they drink;
rthey are consumed like stubble fully dried.
11From you came one
swho plotted evil against the Lord,
a worthless counselor.
12 Thus says the Lord,
Though they are at full strength and many,
tthey will be cut down and pass away.
uThough I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.

Nahum 3

Woe to Nineveh

1 Woe to vthe bloody city,
all full of lies and plunder
wno end to the prey!
2The crack of the whip, and xrumble of the wheel,
ygalloping horse and zbounding chariot!
3Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and aaglittering spear,
abhosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end
they stumble over the bodies!
4And all for the countless whorings of the acprostitute,
adgraceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
5 aeBehold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and afwill lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at agyour nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6I will throw filth at you
and ahtreat you with contempt
and make you aia spectacle.
7And all who look at you ajwill shrink from you and say,
Wasted is akNineveh; alwho will grieve for her?”
amWhere shall I seek comforters for you?
8 anAre you better than aoThebes
Hebrew No-amon

that sat aqby the Nile,
with water around her,
her rampart a sea,
and water her wall?
9 arCush was her strength;
Egypt too, and that without limit;
asPut and the atLibyans were her
Hebrew your
helpers.
10 avYet she became an exile;
she went into captivity;
awher infants were dashed in pieces
at the head of every street;
for her honored men axlots were cast,
ayand all her great men were bound in chains.
11 azYou also will be drunken;
you will go into hiding;
bayou will seek a refuge from the enemy.
12All your fortresses are bblike fig trees
with first-ripe figs
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
13Behold, your troops
bcare women in your midst.
The gates of your land
are wide open to your enemies;
fire has devoured your bars.
14 bdDraw water for the siege;
bestrengthen your forts;
go into the clay;
tread the mortar;
take hold of the brick mold!
15There will the fire devour you;
the sword will cut you off.
It will bfdevour you bglike the locust.
Multiply yourselves bhlike the locust;
multiply bilike the grasshopper!
16You increased bjyour merchants
more than the stars of the heavens.
bkThe locust spreads its wings and flies away.
17 Your blprinces are bmlike grasshoppers,
bnyour scribes
Or marshals
like clouds of locusts
settling on the fences
in a day of cold
when the sun rises, they fly away;
no one knows where they are.
18 Your shepherds bpare asleep,
O king of Assyria;
bqyour nobles slumber.
Your people brare scattered on the mountains
with none to gather them.
19There is no easing your hurt;
bsyour wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
btclap their hands over you.
For buupon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
