The same Greek word can mean either soul or  life, depending on the context; twice in this verse and once in verse 36 and once in verse 37
will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake nand the gospel’s will save it.
36 oFor what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37For pwhat can a man give in return for his soul? 38For qwhoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this radulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed swhen he comes in the glory of his Father with tthe holy angels.”

Mark 9:43-50

43 uAnd if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to vhell,

It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into achell, 48where adtheir worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ 49For everyone will be salted with fire.
Some manuscripts add and every sacrifice will be salted with salt
50 afSalt is good, agbut if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? ahHave salt in yourselves, and aibe at peace with one another.”

Luke 12:5

5But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him ajwho, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell.
