Isaiah 33:9

9 aThe land mourns and languishes;
Lebanon is confounded and withers away;
Sharon is like a desert,
and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

Jeremiah 12:4

4 bHow long will the land mourn
and the grass of every field wither?
cFor the evil of those who dwell in it
dthe beasts and the birds are swept away,
because they said, “He will not see our latter end.”

Jeremiah 14:2

2 eJudah mourns,
and fher gates languish;
her people lament on the ground,
and gthe cry of Jerusalem goes up.

Joel 1:9-13

9 hThe grain offering and the drink offering are cut off
from the house of the Lord.
iThe priests mourn,
jthe ministers of the Lord.
10The fields are destroyed,
kthe ground mourns,
because lthe grain is destroyed,
mthe wine dries up,
the oil languishes.
11 nBe ashamed,
The Hebrew words for  dry up and  be ashamed in verses 10–12, 17 sound alike
O tillers of the soil;
wail, O vinedressers,
for the wheat and the barley,
pbecause the harvest of the field has perished.
12The vine dries up;
qthe fig tree languishes.
Pomegranate, palm, and apple,
all the trees of the field are dried up,
and rgladness dries up
from the children of man.

A Call to Repentance

13 sPut on sackcloth and lament, tO priests;
uwail, O ministers of the altar.
Go in, vpass the night in sackcloth,
wO ministers of my God!
xBecause grain offering and drink offering
are withheld from the house of your God.

Joel 1:16-18

16Is not the food cut off
before our eyes,
yjoy and gladness
from the house of our God?
17 zThe seed shrivels under the clods;
The meaning of the Hebrew line is uncertain

the storehouses are desolate;
the granaries are torn down
because abthe grain has dried up.
18How acthe beasts groan!
The herds of cattle are perplexed
because there is no pasture for them;
even the flocks of sheep suffer.
Or are made desolate

Amos 4:7-8

7 I also aewithheld the rain from you
when there were yet three months to the harvest;
afI would send rain on one city,
and send no rain on another city;
one field would have rain,
and the field on which it did not rain would wither;
8so two or three cities agwould wander to another city
to drink water, and would not be satisfied;
ahyet you did not return to me,”

declares the Lord.
