Isaiah 34:2-10

2For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,
and furious against all their host;
he has adevoted them to destruction,
That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction); also verse 5
has given them over for slaughter.
3Their slain shall be cast out,
and cthe stench of their corpses shall rise;
dthe mountains shall flow with their blood.
4 eAll the host of heaven shall rot away,
and the skies roll up like a scroll.
All their host shall fall,
as leaves fall from the vine,
like leaves falling from the fig tree.
5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens;
behold, it descends for judgment upon fEdom,
upon the people gI have devoted to destruction.
6The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood;
it is gorged with fat,
with the blood of lambs and goats,
with the fat of the kidneys of rams.
hFor the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
7 iWild oxen shall jfall with them,
and kyoung steers with lthe mighty bulls.
Their land shall drink its fill of blood,
and their soil shall be gorged with fat.
8 mFor the Lord has a day of vengeance,
a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
9 nAnd the streams of Edom
Hebrew her streams
shall be turned into pitch,
and her soil into sulfur;
her land shall become burning pitch.
10Night and day pit shall not be quenched;
qits smoke shall go up forever.
rFrom generation to generation it shall lie waste;
none shall pass through it forever and ever.

Isaiah 37:36

36 sAnd the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

Isaiah 63:1-6

The Lord’s Day of Vengeance

1 Who is this who comes from tEdom,
in crimsoned garments from uBozrah,
he who is splendid in his apparel,
vmarching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I, speaking in righteousness,
mighty to save.”
2 Why is your wapparel red,
and your garments like his xwho treads in the winepress?
3 y“I have trodden the winepress alone,
zand from the peoples no one was with me;
I trod them in my anger
and trampled them in my wrath;
their lifeblood
Or  their juice; also verse 6
spattered on my garments,
and stained all my apparel.
4 abFor the day of vengeance was in my heart,
and my year of redemption
Or the year of my redeemed
had come.
5I looked, but adthere was no one to help;
I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold;
so my own arm brought me salvation,
and my wrath upheld me.
6I trampled down the peoples in my anger;
aeI made them drunk in my wrath,
and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

Ezekiel 39:17-20

17“As for you, afson of man, thus says the Lord God: agSpeak to ahthe birds of every sort and to aiall beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to ajthe sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 akYou shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them alfat beasts of Bashan. 19And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you. 20And you shall be filled at my table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all kinds of warriors,’ declares the Lord God.

Revelation of John 16

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

1Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling amthe seven angels, “Go and anpour out on the earth aothe seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

2So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful apsores came upon the people who bore aqthe mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

3The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and arit became like the blood of a corpse, and asevery living thing died that was in the sea.

4The third angel poured out his bowl into atthe rivers and the springs of water, and authey became blood. 5And I heard the angel in charge of the waters
Greek  angel of the waters
say,

awJust are you, axO Holy One, aywho is and who was,
for you brought these judgments.
6For azthey have shed the blood of basaints and prophets,
and bbyou have given them blood to drink.
It is what they deserve!”
7And I heard bcthe altar saying,

Yes, Lord God the Almighty,
bdtrue and just are your judgments!”
8The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people bewith fire. 9They were scorched by the fierce heat, and bfthey cursed
Greek blasphemed; also verses 11, 21
the name of God who had power over these plagues. bhThey did not repent biand give him glory.

10The fifth angel poured out his bowl on bjthe throne of the beast, and bkits kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish 11and cursed blthe God of heaven for their pain and bmsores. bnThey did not repent of their deeds.

12The sixth angel poured out his bowl on bothe great river Euphrates, and bpits water was dried up, bqto prepare the way for the kings brfrom the east. 13And I saw, coming out of the mouth of bsthe dragon and out of the mouth of btthe beast and out of the mouth of buthe false prophet, three bvunclean spirits like bwfrogs. 14For they are bxdemonic spirits, byperforming signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, bzto assemble them for battle on cathe great day of God the Almighty. 15(“Behold, cbI am coming like a thief! ccBlessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, cdthat he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) 16And cethey assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called cfArmageddon.

The Seventh Bowl

17The seventh angel poured out his bowl into cgthe air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, ch“It is done!” 18And there were ciflashes of lightning, rumblings,
Or voices, or sounds
peals of thunder, and cka great earthquake clsuch as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake.
19 cmThe great city cnwas split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God coremembered cpBabylon the great, cqto make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20And crevery island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21And csgreat hailstones, about one hundred pounds
Greek a talent in weight
each, fell from heaven on people; and cuthey cursed God for cvthe plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

Revelation of John 17

The Great Prostitute and the Beast

1Then cwone of the seven angels who had cxthe seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of cythe great prostitute czwho is seated on many waters, 2 dawith whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and dbwith the wine of whose sexual immorality dcthe dwellers on earth have become drunk.” 3And ddhe carried me away in the Spirit deinto a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on dfa scarlet beast that was full of dgblasphemous names, and dhit had seven heads and ten horns. 4The woman diwas arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned djwith gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand dka golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. 5And on her forehead was written a name of dlmystery: dmBabylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” 6And I saw the woman, drunk dnwith the blood of the saints, the blood of dothe martyrs of Jesus.
Greek  the witnesses to Jesus

When I saw her, I marveled greatly.
7But the angel said to me, “Why do you marvel? I will tell you dqthe mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. 8The beast that you saw drwas, and is not, and dsis about to rise from dtthe bottomless pit
Greek  the abyss
and dvgo to destruction. And dwthe dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in dxthe book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because dyit was and is not and is to come.
9 dzThis calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; 10they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. 11As for the beast eathat was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. 12And ebthe ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings ecfor one hour, together with the beast. 13These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast. 14They edwill make war on the Lamb, and eethe Lamb will conquer them, for he is efLord of lords and egKing of kings, and those with him are ehcalled and chosen and faithful.”

15And the angel
Greek he
said to me, ej“The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages.
16And ekthe ten horns that you saw, they and the beast elwill hate the prostitute. They will make her emdesolate and ennaked, and eodevour her flesh and epburn her up with fire, 17for eqGod has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and erhanding over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18And the woman that you saw is esthe great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.”

Revelation of John 18

The Fall of Babylon

1After this I saw etanother angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and euthe earth was made bright with his glory. 2And he called out with a mighty voice,

evFallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become ewa dwelling place for demons,
a haunt exfor every unclean spirit,
a haunt eyfor every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3For all nations have drunk
Some manuscripts fallen by

fathe wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and fbthe kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
and fcthe merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”
4Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,

fdCome out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
5for feher sins are heaped high as heaven,
and ffGod has remembered her iniquities.
6 fgPay her back as she herself has paid back others,
and repay her fhdouble for her deeds;
mix a double portion for her fiin the cup she mixed.
7 fjAs she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
fk‘I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
and mourning I shall never see.’
8For this reason her plagues will come flin a single day,
death and mourning and famine,
and fmshe will be burned up with fire;
for fnmighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
9And fothe kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, fpwill weep and wail over her fqwhen they see the smoke of her burning. 10 frThey will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,

Alas! Alas! fsYou great city,
you mighty city, Babylon!
For ftin a single hour your judgment has come.”
11And futhe merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.
Or  and slaves, and human lives

14 “The fruit for which your soul longed
has gone from you,
and all your delicacies and your splendors
are lost to you,
never to be found again!”
15 fwThe merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, fxwill stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,

16 Alas, alas, for the great city
fythat was clothed in fine linen,
in purple and scarlet,
adorned with gold,
with jewels, and with pearls!
17For fzin a single hour all this wealth gahas been laid waste.”
And gball shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off
18and gccried out gdas they saw the smoke of her burning,

geWhat city was like the great city?”
19And they threw gfdust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

Alas, alas, for the great city
ggwhere all who had ships at sea
grew rich by her wealth!
For ghin a single hour she has been laid waste.
20 giRejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and gjapostles and prophets,
for gkGod has given judgment for you against her!”
21Then gla mighty angel gmtook up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

So will Babylon gnthe great city be thrown down with violence,
and will be found no more;
22and gothe sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
will be found in you no more,
and gpthe sound of the mill
will be heard in you no more,
23and the light of a lamp
will shine in you no more,
and gqthe voice of bridegroom and bride
will be heard in you no more,
for gryour merchants were the great ones of the earth,
and all nations were deceived gsby your sorcery.
24And gtin her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
and of guall who have been slain on earth.”

Revelation of John 19

Rejoicing in Heaven

1After this I heard gvwhat seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,

Hallelujah!
gwSalvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2for gxhis judgments are true and just;
for he has judged gythe great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and gzhas avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
Greek bondservants; also verse 5

3Once more they cried out,

Hallelujah!
hbThe smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4And hcthe twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5And from the throne came a voice saying,

hdPraise our God,
all you his servants,
heyou who fear him,
small and great.”

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

6Then I heard what seemed to be hfthe voice of a great multitude, like hgthe roar of many waters and hhlike the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty hireigns.
7Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for hjthe marriage of the Lamb has come,
and hkhis Bride has made herself ready;
8 hlit was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is hmthe righteous deeds of the saints.

9And the angel said
Greek he said
to me, “Write this: hoBlessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, hpThese are the true words of God.”
10Then hqI fell down at his feet to worship him, hrbut he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant
Greek  fellow bondservant
with you and your brothers who hold to htthe testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Rider on a White Horse

11Then I saw huheaven opened, and behold, hva white horse! The one sitting on it is called hwFaithful and True, and hxin righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 hyHis eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are hzmany diadems, and he has iaa name written that no one knows but himself. 13He is clothed in iba robe dipped in
Some manuscripts sprinkled with
blood, and the name by which he is called is idThe Word of God.
14And the armies of heaven, iearrayed in fine linen, white and pure, ifwere following him on white horses. 15 igFrom his mouth comes a sharp sword ihwith which to strike down the nations, and iihe will rule them with a rod of iron. ijHe will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh ikhe has a name written, ilKing of kings and Lord of lords.

17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to imall the birds that fly directly overhead, inCome, gather for iothe great supper of God, 18 ipto eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,
Greek bondservant
both small and great.”
19And I saw irthe beast and the kings of the earth with their armies isgathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20And the beast was captured, and with it itthe false prophet iuwho in its presence
Or on its behalf
had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who iwworshiped its image. These two were ixthrown alive into the lake of iyfire that burns with sulfur.
21And the rest were slain by the sword izthat came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and jaall the birds were gorged with their flesh.
