Isaiah 34:8

8 aFor the Lord has a day of vengeance,
a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.

Isaiah 59:18

18 bAccording to their deeds, so will he repay,
wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies;
cto the coastlands he will render repayment.

Isaiah 65:5-7

5who say, “Keep to yourself,
do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.”
dThese are a smoke in my nostrils,
a fire that burns all the day.
6Behold, eit is written before me:
f“I will not keep silent, but I will repay;
gI will indeed repay into their lap
7both your iniquities hand your fathersiniquities together,

says the Lord;
ibecause they made offerings on the mountains
jand insulted me on the hills,
I will measure into their lap
payment for their former deeds.”
Or  I will first measure their payment into their lap

Joel 3:7-16

7Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and lI will return your payment on your own head. 8I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the mSabeans, to a nation far away, for the Lord has spoken.”

9 Proclaim this among the nations:
nConsecrate for war;
Or  Consecrate a war

stir up the mighty men.
Let all the men of war draw near;
let them come up.
10 pBeat your plowshares into swords,
and qyour pruning hooks into spears;
let the weak say, “I am a warrior.”
11 rHasten and come,
all you surrounding nations,
and gather yourselves there.
sBring down your warriors, O Lord.
12Let the nations stir themselves up
and come up to tthe Valley of Jehoshaphat;
ufor there I will sit to judge
all the surrounding nations.
13 vPut in the sickle,
wfor the harvest is ripe.
xGo in, tread,
yfor the winepress is full.
The vats overflow,
for their evil is great.
14 Multitudes, multitudes,
in the valley of decision!
For zthe day of the Lord is near
in the valley of decision.
15 aaThe sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
16 abThe Lord roars from Zion,
and acutters his voice from Jerusalem,
adand the heavens and the earth quake.
But the Lord is aea refuge to his people,
a stronghold to the people of Israel.

Amos 1:2-15

Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors

2And he said:

af“The Lord roars from Zion
and utters his voice from Jerusalem;
agthe pastures of the shepherds mourn,
and the ahtop of aiCarmel withers.”
3Thus says the Lord:

aj“For three transgressions of akDamascus,
and for four, alI will not revoke the punishment,
Hebrew  I will not turn it back; also verses 6, 9, 11, 13

because they have threshed anGilead
with threshing sledges of iron.
4 aoSo I will send a fire upon the house of apHazael,
and it shall devour the strongholds of aqBen-hadad.
5I will arbreak the gate-bar of asDamascus,
and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of atAven,
Or On

and him who holds the scepter from avBeth-eden;
and the people of awSyria shall go into exile to axKir,”

says the Lord.
6Thus says the Lord:

ay“For three transgressions of azGaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because bathey carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.
7So I will send a fire upon the wall of bbGaza,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
8I will cut off the inhabitants from bcAshdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”

says the Lord God.
9Thus says the Lord:

bd“For three transgressions of beTyre,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
10So I will send a fire upon the wall of bfTyre,
and it shall devour her strongholds.”
11Thus says the Lord:

bg“For three transgressions of bhEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
bibecause he pursued his brother with the sword
bjand cast off all pity,
bkand his anger tore perpetually,
bland he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon bmTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of bnBozrah.”
13Thus says the Lord:

bo“For three transgressions of the bpAmmonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because bqthey have ripped open pregnant women in brGilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
14So I will kindle a fire in the wall of bsRabbah,
btand it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
buwith a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
15and bvtheir king shall go into exile,
he and his princes
Or officials
together,”

says the Lord.

Amos 2

1Thus says the Lord:

bx“For three transgressions of byMoab,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
Hebrew  I will not turn it back; also verses 4, 6

because cahe burned to lime
the bones of the king of Edom.
2So I will send a fire upon Moab,
and it shall devour the strongholds of cbKerioth,
and Moab shall die amid uproar,
amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;
3 ccI will cut off the ruler from its midst,
and will kill cdall its princes
Or officials
with him,”

says the Lord.

Judgment on Judah

4Thus says the Lord:

cf“For three transgressions of Judah,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because cgthey have rejected the law of the Lord,
and have not kept his statutes,
but chtheir lies have led them astray,
those after which their fathers walked.
5So ciI will send a fire upon Judah,
and it shall devour the strongholds of Jerusalem.”

Judgment on Israel

6Thus says the Lord:

cj“For three transgressions of Israel,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because ckthey sell the righteous for clsilver,
and the needy for a pair of sandals
7those who trample the head of the poor cminto the dust of the earth
and cnturn aside the way of the afflicted;
coa man and his father go in to the same girl,
so that my holy name is profaned;
8they lay themselves down beside every altar
on garments cptaken in pledge,
and in the house of their God they drink
the wine of those who have been fined.
9 “Yet cqit was I who destroyed the Amorite before them,
crwhose height was like the height of the cedars
and who was as strong as the oaks;
csI destroyed his fruit above
and his roots beneath.
10 ctAlso it was I who brought you up out of the land of Egypt
cuand led you forty years in the wilderness,
cvto possess the land of the Amorite.
11And I raised up some of your sons for prophets,
and some of your young men for cwNazirites.
Is it not indeed so, O people of Israel?”

declares the Lord.
12 “But you made the Nazirites cxdrink wine,
and commanded the prophets,
saying, cy‘You shall not prophesy.’
13 Behold, I will press you down in your place,
as a cart full of sheaves presses down.
14 czFlight shall perish from the swift,
daand the strong shall not retain his strength,
dbnor shall the mighty save his life;
15he who handles the bow shall not stand,
and he who is dcswift of foot shall not save himself,
ddnor shall he who rides the horse save his life;
16and he who is stout of heart among the mighty
shall flee away naked in that day,”

declares the Lord.
