Isaiah 35:8
8 aAnd a highway shall be there,and it shall be called the Way of Holiness;
bthe unclean shall not pass over it.
It shall belong to those who walk on the way;
even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. ▼
▼Or if they are fools, they shall not wander in it

John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1 fIn those days gJohn the Baptist came preaching in hthe wilderness of Judea, 2 i“Repent, for jthe kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said,k“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:

4Now John wore na garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was olocusts and pwild honey. 5Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him, 6and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, qconfessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of rthe Pharisees and sSadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, t“You brood of uvipers! Who warned you to flee from vthe wrath to come? 8Bear fruit win keeping with repentance.
Luke 3:8-13
8Bear fruits xin keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, y‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from zthese stones to raise up children for Abraham. 9Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. aaEvery tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”10And the crowds asked him, ab“What then shall we do?” 11And he answered them, ac“Whoever has two tunics ▼
▼Greek chiton, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin
is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” 12 aeTax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, afwhat shall we do?” 13And he said to them, ag“Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” 2 Peter 2:21
21For ahit would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from aithe holy commandment delivered to them.
