9 dAll who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit. Their witnesses neither see nor know, that they may be put to shame. 10 eWho fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing?

The Idols of Babylon and the One True God

1 kBel bows down; Nebo stoops;
their idols are on beasts and livestock;
these things you carry are borne
as burdens on weary beasts.
2They stoop; they bow down together;
they cannot save the burden,
but lthemselves go into captivity.

and weigh out silver in the scales,
hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god;

7 oThey lift it to their shoulders, they carry it,
they set it in its place, and it stands there;
pit cannot move from its place.

or save him from his trouble.
8 Remember this and stand firm,

Jeremiah 2:27-28

27who say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’
and to a stone, ‘You gave me birth.’

Arise and save us!’
