Isaiah 40:1

Comfort for God’s People

1 ^aComfort, comfort my people, says your God.

Isaiah 61:2-3

2 ^bto proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
^cand the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
^dto give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
^ethe oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
^fthat they may be called oaks of righteousness,
