Isaiah 40:1-2

Comfort for God’s People

1 ^aComfort, comfort my people, says your God.
2 ^bSpeak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her
that ^cher warfare ^{▼▼Or hardship} is ended,
that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.

The Lord’s Coming Salvation

1 ^eAwake, awake,
put on your strength, O Zion;
^fput on your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, ^gthe holy city;
^hfor there shall no more come into you
the uncircumcised and the unclean.
2 ⁱShake yourself from the dust and arise;
be seated, O Jerusalem;
^jloose the bonds from your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion.
